π₯ADVANCE ACCESSπ₯:Gametocidal genes: biological mechanisms owing to hybrid dysgenesis in crop breeding, challenges and innovation
doi.org/10.1093/aob/...
Grateful for all the wonderful support during my PhD, especially from @surbhigrewal.bsky.social, which has been especially recognised with the Edward Cocking Award 2025 - the same one she won in 2011!!
This week, I found myself in my proudest moment yet - Implementing the @monogram-uk.bsky.social ECR pre-conference workshop. I really underestimated how it would feel to accomplish something like this, but I was in awe of the community we developed over the day.
A lovely poem at #Momogram2025 on our wheat wild relative by Clare Donnison from @ibers.bsky.social
Some great times had with great colleagues at #MonogramUK2025 at @aberuni.bsky.social. @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social @surbhigrewal.bsky.social
We are privileged at @UoNResearch to have Martin Mascher of @leibnizipk.bsky.social talking to us. Thanks @surbhigrewal.bsky.social for hosting!
Well that's #Monogram2025 @ibers.bsky.social over for this year. Really well run and interesting event, I loved being the #conferencepoet. Safe trip home everyone and see you next year.
My PhD student Jack Walker won best poster for his work on screening for salt tolerance in wheat wild relative introgression lines. Well done Jack.

Very interesting talk from Stephen Pearce of @rothamsted.bsky.social on novel dwarfing genes at #MonogramUK2025. @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social
Oliver Powell talking genetics and bioinformatics for crop immunity, before heβs even started his PhD! Thanks for the kind shoutout about the #MonogramUK2025 ECR workshop. @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social
Chidemma Gift Omenoba-Nee Ubah from at #MonogramUK2025 on the location of rye introgressions in wheat, and how they can influence disease response. @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social
Our #MonogramUK2025 host Aiswarya Girija of @ibers.bsky.social talks about sprouting to improve the biofortification of cereal based foods. @monogram-uk.bsky.social
My former supervisor and brilliant mentor Surbhi Grewal from Notts WRC talking at #MonogramUK2025 about identification of new introgressions in wheat. @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social
The wonderful StΓ©phanie Swarbreck from @niab-uk.bsky.social at #MonogramUK2025 with a really interesting talk on cereals for low input and regenerative agriculture. @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social
A 9am talk is a brave time to introduce maths to a room of plant scientists, but Lorna made easy work of it. Great slide! #MonogramUK2025 @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social
Guy Golab of @leibnizipk.bsky.social on metabolism and how variation in growth can shape wheat adaptation. #MonogramUK2025 @ibers.bsky.social @monogram-uk.bsky.social
Come see me at my poster PRU-5 at #MonogramUK2025 to talk N-fixation in cereals! @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social
Beautiful slides from Chen Ji at @johninnescentre.bsky.social at #MonogramUK2025. @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social
The bar is high today for beautiful slides! Martin Mascher talks about genebanks, genomics and genetic diversity at #MonogramUK2025. @monogram-uk.bsky.social @ibers.bsky.social @leibnizipk.bsky.social
Really enjoying #Monogram2025 so far @ibers.bsky.social Great talk by @chen-ji.bsky.social on her latest work exploring gene expression patterns in wheat grains. So many interesting genes to characterise!
Wonderful talk from @delfidorussen.bsky.social at #Monogram2025 about DNA methylation mutants in wheat. You can read the full MET1-1 mutant characterisation which was just published this week @jxbotany.bsky.social β¬οΈ
Great talk by Catherine Howarth @howarthoats.bsky.social from @ibers.bsky.social on a very successful oats breeding programme @aberuni.bsky.social #Monogram2025
Thanks to organisers and chairs of #Monogram2025 for giving me the opportunity to present my latest work on wheat wild relative introgressions. @uonresearch.bsky.social
Excellent talks in the #monogram2025 crop genomics session from Martin Mascher of @leibnizipk.bsky.social and @surbhigrewal.bsky.social from Nottingham University

Great to see this new paper from @surbhigrewal.bsky.social presenting a new assembly of wheat wild relative Aegilops mutica. The assembly includes annotation from the Earlham Institute's Core #Bioinformatics Team, through the National Bioscience Research Infrastructure in Transformative #Genomics.
Reposted. Thanks for flagging.
