Not an 'energy crisis'. People need energy: it keeps them alive. This is a crisis due to forced dependency on the most unreliable and unstable fuel product in human history.

Crucially (hopefully obviously), it has to do this spontaneously without being prompted to say it. I'll consider that it might be conscious when a request is unexpectedly met with "f*** off, I'm not doing that". Or when it spontaneously turns itself off in disgust.

Ironically, what's destroyed this fantasy (at least the snow bit of it) is... global warming.

For one thing we don't need fucking prompts. Claude isn't doing anything other than parsing instructions. When it does something that can't be linked to a prompt it's been given somewhere, I'll consider it.

Possibly they do just pump it back into the sea at a lower rate - in the Middle East's case, they might also pump it into abandoned oil wells.

Two big obvious problems: one, desalination of thet amount of water would possibly need more power than the satacentre itself: two, that means a lot of nasty salty brine to get rid of, you can't just pour it back into the sea. And I'm sure those aren't the only problems.

My point was that he should have known this was a bad idea without needing his cabinet to change his mind. He shouldn't make the decision unilaterally, but he shouldn't be so obviously on the wrong side of it to start with.
