The thing is, he doesn't even know what he's talking about. The blowback from people who patronize those art forms has been enormous. There's still a large audience for both ballet and opera.

Yes we do! I'm hoping all this publicity has a Streisand Effect and both opera and ballet gain a whole new following among young people.
And BTW, I am sooo jealous. I used to live in NYC and I miss being able to see opera at the Met. 😓
Can't speak for ballet, but as an opera singer, we're required to act ON TOP OF learning a foreign language, ON TOP OF singing said language in a precise, laser focused way ON TOP OF being able to project that voice to the back of a large arena without amplification.
