And if we get rid of sheep farms, and move away from fossil fuel cars to electric trains, our countrysides can be so much better for humans. We are part of nature and we need to act more like it!

US establishment 2002: it's regrettable we have to go to war but 9/11 means we have no choice but to try and spread democracy.
RoW: That's just cover and you're just bloodthirsty neoimperialist white supremacists.
US establishment 2026: Yeah LOL you were right we're going to exterminate you all.

EU spokesperson says EU wants to prioritise destruction of the climate over helping Ukraine because Orban should always be the voice of Europe.
What is the EU even doing?

Scientific American has updated the figure, now grouped into swimmers, fliers, walkers/runners, and vehicles. A person on a bicycle remains the most efficient way to travel, compared to all forms of biological locomotion and mechanical transport.

Buffers in concrete blocks
Someone (maybe @garethdennis.uk ?) made threads about rail buffers
I’m not sure what’s going on at Lille Flandres. The old buffers have been encased in concrete blocks, which would surely mangle anything below any buffers, and derail an over-running train?

China’s 450km/h bullet train is the fastest ever built
Dart between Beijing and Shanghai in under four hours, with airline-like business class comfort.
China is testing a train that will go 280mph, making it the fastest conventional train in the world.
The US can't get its shit together to build a single new line.

German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz backs a US proposed blockade against fellow EU member Spain, for the audacity of defending their shared values. What the the hell is the point of the EU? To be ruled by the Germans who kneel before the Americans and the Israelis who want to start Armageddon?

This is why I don't agree that climate has taken a backseat. Utility bills are equity issues _but they are also_ climate issues.

Worth noting that despite frothing at the mouth of various right-wing media outlets in UK, the decision by Ed Miliband to go ahead with over 8GW of offshore wind in the recent renewables auction now looks a sensible bet
One of few ways UK can reduce economic risk from instability in Middle East

Croatia tenders Lowland Railway consultancy contract
Croatian infrastructure manager HŽ Infrastructure is tendering a technical assistance contract for the project to build a new line between Zagreb and Rijeka.
Why is Croatia considering only 160km/h for the new railway line Zagreb - Rijeka?
So much for freight nothing more makes sense? But how much more expensive would an alignment for 200 or 230km/h be, not least as there are not going to be level crossings anyway? www.railjournal.com/infrastructu...
