I’m a security scholar. I read, write, and lecture on horrific things on a daily basis. I don’t lose my composure in class. Ever. But today, I had to take a pause and a breath. We have lost and are still losing so much.
Today I had to explain to my students that they can no longer access the USIP website for their human security case study project because it is still blocking all traffic. Decades of research and progress, my brilliant colleagues’ work, my work, all in the name of peace and security is just…gone.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.
