Looks like its going to be another spicy summer in the US.

There should be a chess rule that if your kid suddenly runs into the room and starts shouting her hunger games fan theory at you and it causes you to lose an online blitz game on your phone, it doesn't count. That's just not fair.
Chicago fighting back against ICE. You love to see it πͺ
Putting together a popular school chess club is very difficult, with the exception of high school clubs where it is shockingly simple.
Just order pizza for the kids every meeting, thats it, totally foolproof. Get grocery store pizzas and bake it yourself if you're cheap. It will cost like $10.
I didn't know the guy who tried to cover up the My Lai massacre was a chess player.
The US Chess federation is STILL selling a Tate family worshiping book full of "life lessons" with the whole rotten clan on the cover.
It occurs to me that the profit motive negatively affects chess improvement as much as anything else
There is a strong incentive to push improvers in the direction of specialist "knowledge" that coaches and content providers can provide, instead of the thousands of hours of practice that they can't
@lichess The Russian Agricultural Bank was sanctioned by the EU in August 2022.
Ideally do not transmit their tournaments, but at least do not advertise their logo.
Absolutely.
Every once in a while I have to lookup a tweet for something, and I don't know how anybody who isn't an enthusiastic nazi uses that site.π
A post saying: "Lets not jump to conclusions without listening to what Yoo has to say. Weβve seen many cases in which the allegations of a woman were not as initially potrayed and someoneβs career can be ended by those allegations. We know nothing about this situation but what the woman said, and apparently there is no evidence but her word. She may be right, but maybe things are not 100% as she paints them. Just saying"
Reading the QueenRosieMary blog about Chess GM Christopher Yoo punching a women from behind with numerous witnesses and predictably there is commentator that somehow takes Yoo's side.
These animals are not as much the problem as the chess federations/clubs/websites that refuse to confront them.
βTerrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.β

ABC news, Times Magazine, CNN and many others reported the "dire wolf" scam as real. Others (like NPR) more or less did the same but hedged by quoting real scientists saying its all bullshit. If its bullshit why did you publish an article?!?
Kurt Vonnegut tells his wife he's going out to buy an envelope: "Oh, she says, well, you're not a poor man. You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet? And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope. I meet a lot of people. And see some great looking babies. And a fire engine goes by. And I give them the thumbs up. And I'll ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is β we're here on Earth to fart around And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around. And it's like we're not supposed to dance at all anymore."
Kurt Vonnegut man
Isn't it great when chess engines do this cool stuff in real formal competitions unlike a certain deeply suspicious google product from a few years ago that I could name.
If name recognition isn't enough, he also could try using his millions of dollars.
Wow! Congrats!
While ivy league chancellors and high powered corporate lawyers fall all over themselves to capitulate as quickly as possible, a bunch of school teachers making $40k a year are the ones fighting back.
This person is lucky they weren't hauled off to a concentration camp like others.
Nobody should be travelling to the US right now.

The Chess content mills continue to be both embarrassingly dumb and concretely harmful.
"Lie detectors" are a scam. They've been used to both convict innocent people and exonerate criminals, and now Hikaru et al have used their gigantic platforms to contribute to the problem.
Apparently the corporate media has already decided to accept Trumps framing of everything, even the "liberal" wing.
Theres no reason to think Colombia "backed down." They insisted on humane treatment of their citizens, while in transit. Apparently the US agreed. The same thing happened in 2023.
saw this reddit post today and couldn't stop crying. suddenly that old clip of the 13 yo Murzin crying on the board after a loss made so much sense. i will always be rooting for him.
Blitz/Rapid events are generally cheaper to run and much easier to schedule.
If it's online, those are both even more true.
Most viewed chess events by hours watched.
The most viewed events every year are mostly classical.
I don't think most realize that classical chess isn't being phased out because the fans want it, its happening because rapid/blitz are a better business model.
Corporations don't give customers what they want, they give them what makes the most money.
The same is true of online vs. OTB.
When I'm winning, the trick I use is to have a little internal pep talk and tell myself that I'm going to stay focused and finish the game strong and then I don't.
American law only allows one discrete emotion at a time. π
We're good at basketball and cultural imperialism, it wouldn't be fair if we got to have emotional depth too.
I dont think we have that emotion.π€
I used to donate to Propublica, but that changed with what I thought was a terrible article about AMLO's alleged connections to the cartels.
The perfect example of uncritically trusting law enforcement and foreign opposition sources who have every reason to lie based on 0 concrete evidence.
