Zen and the Art of Fantasy Baseball
Yeah, I was so impacted by the book and the beauty of Jim Casy’s message that I wrote a song about him. I probably couldn’t even remember how it goes now — it’s been years since I even thought about it. If we would all be more like Casy, our world would be in very different condition.
One of the most beautiful—and emotionally wrenching—books ever written. I teach it every year; each year it hits closer to home. Honestly don’t know if I can teach it this year: it’s always been “real” but at least there were ways we weren’t yet in Steinbeck’s bleak scenario. We are fully in now.

Less than a year ago, I was a simple nerdy baseball fan. Then @razzball.bsky.social gave me a chance to write a few things, which was cool in itself.
In 11 days, 9 months since the ride started, I’ll have my own weekly column:
“Zen and the Art of Fantasy Baseball.” At the Razz.
Whoa.
And she did it multiple times just to make everyone sure beyond doubt she’s not that great with the “American” (which I’m sure was spoken by Jesus).
I kind of think their plan is to finish second on good FAs, and then to make sure that it’s widely publicly known that they finished second. This makes it looks like they’re shopping, but they’ve shown me enough to assume they’re not really serious about improving the roster in any significant way.

At what point do these people become aware of their unironic carnivalesque nature toward every aspect of their public lives? I wonder how ridiculous their private lives look if this is the “sane” version they let the public see.

For me, it was birds. Once I realized I now looked forward to sitting on my porch and watching birds at the feeders (of which we of course have several), I had to come to terms with never being cool or interesting again.
Congrats, 2 years is huge. In many ways, the second year is harder than the first (at least that was my experience). You deserve to be proud!
