@xkcd.com just reminded me of an amusing story from Ambassador Nathaniel Davis, who was a professor at @harveymudd.bsky.social when I was a student there. His family had a new posting in Latin America (I forget the country).
I remember a priest back in the early 90s telling a story about his experience in the 60s/70s after talking with students about the lives of the Apostles immediately after the ascension. He was reported for Communist sympathies.

The probability at least one gets it back is about 1-e^{-1}. This is the large N limit.
The probability of me getting my own back is 1/365, and not getting it is 364/365.
Whether you get yours back has very little impact on whether I get mine back.
If we put some thought in, we can convince ourselves that they are almost independent.
A modified version of this question that is harder: Assume 365 students turn in an assignment, and they are then randomly handed back to the students. What is the probability that at least one student receives their own assignment?
