A Florida bill would create a "counterterrorism unit" to “detect and neutralize” people, groups, businesses, and others whose "actions, views or opinions are a threat or are inimical to the interests of this state and the United States of America.”
Already passed a State senate committee 7-1.

If you care about democracy, follow this guy.
It’s not her job to school him. Her job is to ask questions and press him on inadequate answers — which she did in this case. He provided an absurd answer that’s now part of the record.

Studies show that when local news outlets stop scrutinizing government, efficiency drops. Public payrolls bloat. Waste increases.
The cost gets passed to you—roughly $85 in added taxes per person after a county loses one of its last few papers.

Reporter here. Most local / regional papers charge an initial 99 cents for a digital subscription. Try it for a year. Aim to be an engaged and informed member of the public. Democracy is counting on you.
I can't get over this number: in 2007, there were 360,000 newspaper jobs. Now, there are 80,000. "My local paper sucked!" Sure. What sucks even more? The void. "I get all my news from the Guardian!" No, the Guardian doesn't report on your town council, your school board, local cops.
This is an example of how not to do journalism. Picking out a tiny moment in a congressperson's spoken life vs. the extreme statements from the right-wing, including from our actual president, is the kind of both-sides-ism that is killing our media, and our democracy. nymag.com/intelligence...
And you have to sign your name, attesting that you are who you say you are. I wish a reporter would force the GOP to explain how someone might carry out large-scale fraud under the current voting system.

As someone who spent a year working as press secretary for a member of Congress, I can unequivocally say that all of them are briefed on everything the president says or does. To claim otherwise is a lie.
