yu gi oh is like really fuckin good bro takahashi one of the goats. the combo of konami's evil card game machine in the background and its memetic status in the west kinda obscures that it's the real deal. one of the genuine great post dragon ball battle manga

i love that yugi doesnt want to be the best duelist. he wants to be a game designer and try lots of different games with lots of different people. just utterly uninterested in the Battle of it. this is why kaiba hates dueling him even though he's just as good if not better than the pharoah at cards

one thing that seperates yu-gi-oh from other shonen sports manga is its genuine belief that games are Not Important. so kaiba blatantly cheating isn't framed as a weakness it's a moral victory where he realised there are more important things than winning card games. he would not realise this again

remember when kaiba won a card game by (correctly) saying no one but me is ready to kill and die for this shit then doing this
