Barrow Town Hall, a very grand late Victorian (1887) gothic civic building in Red Sandstone. Set against a beautiful spring blue sky.
In Barrow for research. Some very impressive late C19/early C20 public architecture. Very prosperous for about 35 years and then… not. Economic history written into place.
This, Battleships, Tariffs…
I know he doesn’t read, so has some idiot done a truly awful YouTube vid about the 1890s?
Thanks Alasdair, really enjoyed such a Caerphilly put together event
Cheese is such a good lens to look through
This was a great cheese tasting meets historical symposium. Not a crackers approach food history
Deputy Heads will roll
It was a Bottoms Up in the late 90s. Which led to some terrible jokes.
The past is another country.
Again, beats my oven ready pizza from Sainsbury’s. Really good to meet you.
Great to meet you and the clever people.
But realising that I’ve made a missed an opportunity with the KFC call
That’s a good parallel to draw, HG Wells was busy inventing sci-fi as part of the invasion panic phenomenon of the years before the FWW
I think the date, September 1914, is too early for blackouts? It was among papers relating to ‘educated’ ie middle class women, doing clerical work, essentially as volunteers
I think this is a card issued early in WW1 to employees of firms essential to the war effort to stop them being branded cowards given white feathers.
But this one appears to have issued to a MISS Wilberforce?
From home, everywhere I’ve ever worked
Old Castle Swifts, immediately below, were one of the precursors of West Ham
It feels like it, doesn’t it? Still, at least we have chairman who wrote a book about organisational culture.
0-1
So bad. There is something extremely wrong with that team and I don’t think it is confined to the players on the pitch.

For somewhere they probably won’t have been, Zagreb
Congratulations
You should only need 11 minutes if the ambulance actually has to drive onto the pitch to take a player off
But unless you get much more deeply into the weeds than most people are prepared/able to go you are still using IOS or Android
Kudos to anyone replying to this thread without using either an Apple or an Alphabet/Google product.
Today clearly proof that form is temporary while class is permanent*.
*Lasts till the next lackadaisical defensive shambles.
2-1
Ballard, O’Neil
God knows why I think we’ll win. We were good last week and we don’t build on good performances this season.
There is always the possibility of organising a recall. But in this case the Tories would probably lose so won’t. Interesting counter factual if the mechanism had been in operation in 1981 though
I agree, but the SNP won’t dare say it
That’s a shame, I thought he was excellent last week and was looking forward to seeing if he and Ballard could build an old fashioned strike partnership.
