Not even Babylon 5 is actually Babylon 5
Not even Babylon 5 is actually Babylon 5
Famously in the parable of the sheep and the goats, not just the goats, but also the sheep are surprised to learn that they had been doing to the Son of Man.
Everyone should not have to have a direct line to elected officials in order to ensure that we are not kidnapped by the government.
Okay, I am slightly more interested in it than I was.
As an artistic project hostility to the player/viewer/reader is as valid as anything. The problem with it as a consumer is that there are a lot of things that want my time and only so much time, and it’s hard to choose to experience certain kinds of unpleasantness for me.
Doing research for next week's episode and learning that Elbit Systems is not just Israel's primary arms manufacturer but one of the largest arms companies in the entire world and thinking about how the British government framed opposition to it as antisemitism against a smol bean Jewish business.
Grandpa Simpson giving a boring lecture to Bart and his friends
"See, that's where everyone gets confused. ICP is a posse composed of insane clowns. If it was a posse chasing after insane clowns, that'd be a whole different thing."
I remember learning about the Hays Code in film school and how it made it so that any amoral protagonist had to meet karmic justice by the end of the film and going “wow, that’s really silly” and then once a week I log online and see people argue that we need stuff like that now or it’s problematic

Or.2784, folio 96r Miniature depicting Aristotle instructing Alexander the Great, from The Description and Uses of Animals compiled from works by Aristotle and ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Bakhtishu. March 7, 1277: 219 philosophical & theo. readings banned by Bishop of Paris, Stephen Tempier. The influx of Greek & Arabic editions of Aristotle translated into Latin had corrupted the University of Paris’ students & teachers. Woke on that new Aristotle! Traditionally I’m more of a DC Universe guy than a Marvel guy.
Determined to catch up with @xplainthexmen.bsky.social before the end, so I’m listening to a lot and I’m thinking about the X-Men and the superhero genre
Star Trek Voyager scene. Seven of Nine (tertiary adjunct of unimatrix 01) is pictured. She has a dolphin shaped metal robotic implant around her left eye because she is a borgs. Closed caption reads, "Fun will now commence."
It's the weekend, baby
Some people think politics is when you yell at people online whose posts you didn’t understand.
Your job is to pick the word possible actor to play James Bond. Go! (He’s been dead for years)
Golden Age Superman stands head to thigh alone in a panel black at the top and red on the bottom where Superman stands pointing at the reader as he says, "Be wary of unscrupulous operators of gambling games--they are always on the look out for unsuspecting victims."
Star Trek The Original Series scene. We're on the bridge of the Enterprise, point of view from the captains chair looking forward. Sulu is at his station just ahead and looking back at us if to say "are you seeing this shit?" Beyond Sulu is the main view screen, where Abraham Lincoln is pictured in a large chair with space behind him. Closed caption reads, "I AM ABRAHAM LINCOLN."
The best bit of using the idea of an alternate world in superhero comic though isn’t a multiverse thing at all, it’s the issue of All-Star Superman where it’s heavily implied that our world is the simulation Superman made to see how the world would fare without him
Fair enough, I had missed that lore
The thing about Marvel’s reality designation numbers is I understand the idea was that they don’t center the “main”Marvel universe as “Prime” or “1” or anything and that’s a good move, but it’s not clear what they do index or whose index it is.
I don’t agree that the Browncoats from Firefly are the Confederacy, I see them as a doomed attempt to construct a fictional way to have the “romance” of the “Lost Cause” without, you know, endorsing slavery. Nevertheless there’s no point in doing Firefly in the 2020s
a guy on the train in berlin is wearing a pin badge, of the sort one might wear in support of a band or political cause, but his is in support of the ancient grain amaranth
no brand or anything just Amaranth
Everyone who rolled their eyes at “the gulf war didn’t happen” owe Baudrillard an apology
