The more I write, the more I'm convinced that all writers end up as plantsers eventually. Flexibility is useful, what can I say? *shrugs*

Researching the historical difference between "chemist", "druggist" and "apothecary" for a future gothic romance project sure has sent me down an unexpected rabbit hole. Wow.

Beatrice sits in the woods holding the book, I'll Make a Spectacle of You. Against a red background with trees, "Set in Jonesborough, Tennessee, I'll Make a Spectacle of You is a queer, nonlinear Southern Gothic horror".

I'LL MAKE A SPECTACLE OF YOU is a published novel!

My Gothic horror novel is a tribute to Black Appalachia, HBCUs, and Hoodoo, featuring a lesbian main character whose name and life mission are profoundly inspired by icon Zora Neale Hurston.

I was just blindsided by an entire pitch for my next project that dropped into my lap like it was nobody's business----and damn, this is the kind of creative high you live for, isn't it?

Peacefully languishing on sub a second time while going on sub a third time while starting to write the next thing... and this is really just the way of it, innit? Buckle up and onwards we go! Arctic nautical spec-cy horror, it is! ⚓️👏

The Fir Tree has a lot of that same feel, honestly!

I'll have to go read that one! I remember the title, but can't recall the story and now I'm intrigued 👀

Nearly every single Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale is a low-key horror story, but I don't see enough people talking about "The Fir Tree"/"Grantræet". That story has haunted me since childhood, istg, more formative for me than any of his other stories. I still think about it randomly as an adult.

I just finished @danaiwrites.bsky.social's VILE LADY VILLAINS (out next year) and *chomps down on pillow and makes unintelligible noises*.

Thanks. That was all for today. Remember to drink water and prioritize your sleep and don't walk through doors with bloodied handles and broken keys.

Or do...

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.
