As I'm currently writing up the more in-depth analysis of the BGA geophysics education surveys I thought it would be good to share a version of the preliminary results in the Winter 2024 issue of the Geoscientist magazine (p 32) (a re-write of the A+G article) - thoughts/comments very welcome!

I want men in science to think about this. Think about the biases you have grown up with so much you're probably not even aware you have them. ๐งช #WomenInSTEM

For those interested in the tectonics: this earthquake occurred near the Mendocino triple junction where 2 strike slip transform faults and a subduction zone meet: the Cascadia subduction zone to the north, the San Andreas fault to the south and the Mendocino transform fault to the west ๐งชโ๏ธ

Fun morning of geohazard outreach with P5 kids at a primary in Arbroath this week - kids built 'earthquake' resilient buildings out of spaghetti and marshmallows, tested the viscosity of different (kitchen cupboard) 'lavas', and thought about where to build houses to protect them from tsunamis
