Se reconoce fácilmente por su corola blanca o violácea, provista de un largo espolón. Desde las dunas de Pulpí hasta los paisajes áridos de Tabernas, pasando por las Salinas de Cabo de Gata, ocupa hábitats muy específicos que, lamentablemente, cada vez están más fragmentados 🛑⏱️

🌍🌲 European black pine is widely used for reforestation, timber, and restoration. It grows from Spain and France to Italy, the Balkans, Turkey, and North Africa.
Here’s the twist, Pinus nigra is not just one tree; it has at least 5 subspecies.

🌲 This means future forests depend on which subspecies we use today.
For restoration and reforestation:
❌ One-size-fits-all doesn’t work.
✅ Climate-smart, subspecies-specific planning is key.
Projection maps for the five Pinus nigra subspecies under future climate change scenarios.
Under scenarios of future climate change:
• Some subspecies are projected to expand northwards.
• Others will lose most of their suitable habitat.
• One of them could almost disappear by 2100.
Variable importance for the different set of climate variables for each Pinus nigra subspecies.
The different subspecies are adapted to different combinations of temperature, rainfall, and aridity. Climate change won’t affect them equally.

We used climate niches + species distribution models to see how each subspecies responds to climate change. Surprisingly, most subspecies occupy very different climatic niches. Same species, but not ecologically equivalent.

Components of the game’s social-ecological model. The landscape consists of hexagonal tiles, each of which have an associated biodiversity and productivity value. The combined biodiversity and productivity values of the entire landscape determine the player’s available budget as well as their approval ratings in the population. Stochastic events may influence certain parts of the game world, while laws and investments can be used by the player to influence game mechanics.
