“We continue to think of towns as daytime places where people
come together to do business … that just isn’t the case anymore. And maybe that’s why you should start to think of a town centre as a night-time place”

From snowdrop to nightjar – how one Norfolk scientist’s valuable record of spring lasted 222 years Robert Marsham’s “Indications of Spring” is an incredible 222-year record of flora and fauna events that still informs climate studies today

This is a fascinating story. Marsham and 6 generations of his family kept a detailed log of specific signs of the onset of spring...for 222 years! Starting in pre-industrial Britain is it the longest science experiment of its kind ever undertaken. Really worth a read ⤵️

How to Delete Facebook Account Permanently on Desktop, Laptop, Mac, or Chromebook YouTube video by Gauging Gadgets

True to its long history of exploitation and obfuscation, Meta makes it as hard as possible to delete your Facebook account. It keeps changing the procedure. In some cases it directs you to the wrong tabs. But this video by Gauging Gadgets provides a simple guide. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZIJ...

Terry Pratchett's "Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socio-economic unfairness". The best quote I've ever read about why being poor can be so expensive.

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved.

We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

I'd assumed that the get back to the office stuff in the media was generated by lobbies for the office owners and retail businesses who plainly are in places whose value has diminished as the footfall has. I may be missing something, but isn't this the genius of the market in full play?

Evening Alan - If measuring the £ rewards then don't you think we ought to compare the total packages they are on - so go a little beyond the salary they are paid and include stuff like free accommodation, expenses remunerated, and pension accrued to name but three obvious non salary benefits.

OBR total UK projected revenue & spending to 2072/73 shows public spending projected to rise from 45 to over 60 per cent of GDP, while revenues remain at around 40 per cent of GDP revenue

Published today, an OBR report says an ageing population, climate change, rising geopolitical tensions and other pressures will eventually put the UK public finances on an unsustainable path. “The first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one.”

When somebody posts something I disagree with, but which is obviously designed to get a reaction, I avoid giving the post that oxygen. I see no point in helping somebody start a fire I don't want. I see every point in knowing who the firestarters are. Comments?
