I think you're right. Nolan's another example where people know the format matters. The passion and excitement of the creators absolutely gets conveyed.
"Hey, this tech is a huge pain in the ass but it's worth it!" vs "The studio pre-vizzed the whole movie and we shot that."

Modern SFX have kind of become the technology so advanced that it seems like magic, so their technical break downs of the craft is amazing but yeah, the narrow focus and outsider-ness is limiting at times.

Movie Magic - Hudsucker Proxy, Saboteur, Time Cop
YouTube video by Midnight Munchies
I was watching Movie Magic as an 11 year old. Bring that back!
I think what you're talking about is a big part of the appeal that Corridor Crew has too.

Initially read this as Tim Robinson and imagined something equally memorable. Louder though.

I think Blonde would be reclaimed but for the Netflix of it. I don't think it's messy at all. It's abrasive. Dominik is too formally in control to accuse him of mess, IMO.

Disney recently semi-recommitted to physical media but clearly feel zero obligation to the Fox catalogue and its so frustrating. As a horror fan, a deluxe 4k of The Empty Man would be a day one buy.

Basically all the new additions either add nothing or make it worse. The extended anime sequences kills any momentum. I prefer b&w House of Blue Leaves, to my surprise. The all color version felt repetitious in a way that it never had before. B&W gives it a rhythm, turns out, IMO.

Religion as political pandering has little constituency on the left, but Warnock and activists like William Barber II absolutely use their faith as a framework for politics to great effect.
But that's what the dead end centrists can never be: sincere.

I frequently find myself remembering that Harrison's dad has piercing noises periodically piped into his ears to keep him from thinking too deeply or long. We let cellphones do that to us willingly.

He also was the only veteran cinematographer who seemed to like working with Marvel. He spoke so positively about shooting the boards with no variation. Deakins sounded kind of baffled, if I recollect correctly.

And Cloud Atlas somehow had better music!

Just rewatched them, albeit at home. It came into being at the perfect moment to have to be just a little scrappy even with all the tech and practical mixing.
Even just a few years later the CGI would predominate

I'm baffled too but, at least for most of the props, I know WETA fabricates actually versions and then scans them. Maybe costumes were the same?
Still odd but there *may* have been physical costumes in the mix.

Rewatched this last night and was pleased at how great it still is.
Griebe's cinematography is lush in the best ways and Heil/Kleimak/Tykwer's score really soars. Great adaptation of damned tricky material.
