You said last Kongversation that you were going just to see if DK gets anything, but you should *also* go to show your support for Super Mario Bros. 2. This cameo movie should be met with no cynicism by you!

Also, it's great to see how much Nintendo loves DK and his legacy by acting out this deep-cut DKC3 reference. Bravo, Vince. First Bananza and now *this?*

This is another feather in the "Nintendo isn't 'evil'" cap. If they were, they would either bend the knee and/or not make a fuss to just charge consumers more. Not saying Nintendo are doing this to be "nice," but you can't say they just want to gouge consumers and didn't try to fight these tariffs.

Sometimes who they are can be extremely frustrating, but Nintendo seldom chase trends. Sometimes it makes them feel behind the times, but then it also keeps them from modern pitfalls as well.

I think Nintendo went quadruple platinum for you last year after Bananza and then them bringing back the Virtual Boy! In all seriousness, yeah, they've been embracing their legacy more than ever before and their "backwardsness" is a strength when it comes to this stuff. They stick to who they are.

I mean, some people dislike having kids and babies in general, yeah? So from that perspective alone, I think it's fair to dislike Kiddy. Some people *hate* Baby Mario in Yoshi's Island, for example. And an ugly design is an ugly design, regardless whether it's reflective of reality or not, y'know?

Oh, I mean I'm 100% expecting teenage Tiny and ghost Wrinkly, but I more so was speaking to your point in the article about the possibility for characters like Xananab. I just, sadly, still think spinoff characters aren't gonna be included

Not to say it's impossible (Waluigi got a costume in Odyssey, after all), but I don't think the statues are going to be Barrel Blast themed.

So I'm actually gonna counter and say I think, sadly, Barrel Blast is just being invoked cause that was the two's most recent game. They didn't do the same for Lanky cause Chunky wasn't in it. Weird, I know, but it's just that spin-offs seldom get referenced in mainline titles. Would love it though!

Oh, for sure, I don't think any of these designs are going to be throwback designs (which is why I wasn't preparing for tiny Tiny). Funky will look very similar to his Tropical Freeze look (prepping for no changes, like Cranky) and I think Candy will look virtually identical to the DK Island poster

I think it's an inevitability that Funky is paired with Candy for the DKC homage. Nintendo have been pairing Kongs together and, if Wrinkly and Chunky get statues despite zero references in base Bananza, I don't see Candy not getting a statue after being explicitly name-dropped/getting a poster

But yeah, sorry Courtney (and other tiny Tiny fans), it just feels like they never would've walked that back. It'd be odd if they kept Wrinkly dead but de-age Tiny. I feel like Nintendo asked to make her tall for a reason, right? (Prob to make her look more distinct to Dixie)

I'm kinda wondering if the statues will *actually* reference Barrel Blast or if they're just using these characters' most recent appearance? Idk, kinda weird, but still. IF Barrel Blast actually is referenced, I think that opens the door for characters like Xananab and so on

I *would* like if we started getting new Fractone characters for these spin-off games. In Mario Kart, we should get "Racintone," in Mario Tennis we could get "Tennistone," and so on.

Oh, but yeah, I'd say Returns is when I really started to think more of DK as his own thing. Tropical Freeze on Wii U is what really threaded that needle, though. I'm a proud advocate of Retro's duology!

...though, I've gotta ask, as what is probably DK Vine's most outspoken Returns/Tropical Freeze advocate (I grew up with the two), did you end up going back to them? What did you think? They're challenging to be sure!
