Iowa: Supported Decision-Making (SDM) Demonstration Project.
SDM helps people keep the right to make their own choices instead of having a guardian doing it for them.
The demonstration project will help 10 to 15 people who are 60 or older.
The project wants to help more people with SDM and reduce unnecessary guardianship.

NACDD and #ACL announced four states were awarded additional Bridging Aging and #Disability Network #BADN funding.

Following a competitive review process, the awardees selected were: #Iowa, #Connecticut, #Kansas, and #Illinois. The proposed initiatives are highlighted here.

Alabama Council on Developmental Disabilities (ACDD) is working with KultureCity on a school-based project called “The Sensory Inclusion Certification and Training Partnership.” 

This program will train teachers and school staff across Alabama to better support students who are sensitive to sounds, lights, or other sensory input. 

The training will help schools create calmer, more inclusive classrooms so that all students, including those who are neurodivergent, can learn and feel comfortable.

DD Councils helped grow these kinds of jobs 17% from 2011 to 2018, and getting good jobs is still a very important goal to all of the Councils.

53,570 of those are participating in advocacy, which means they are speaking up to create change.
