This makes more sense now that Iβve seen your earlier skeet (but also, yeah, probably good idea)

In the (lefty, borderline anarchist) Episcopal parish I was part of for much of my adult life, we did this as a blessing for a person or family that was leaving the parish. Iβve never been a believer, but as a communal gesture of love and care it was pretty powerful (but fuck everyone in that photo)
Iβve been into it for a while but I got to read sone of it with a tutoring student, which was so much fun. I started in on making a student edition of it a few years ago and maybe should return to that
Donβt look at me, I was at the Rusty Rudder that dayβ¦
Love Kropotkin for this
Youth in D.C experiencing homelessness or housing instability can access emergency shelters and drop-in centers. Here's a list to keep and share with anyone who needs it.
God I miss that spot
Ok, this wins and I might bring it into this weekβs classes
Or of taking an AP exam
We gotta catch up properly by phone for real.
Can likely hook you up with recordings if physical or digital copies arenβt accessible β€οΈ
It was a life affirming show in the face of the (still unresolved) horrors of the time and the Quails spoke eloquently and inspiringly to that during their set. Plus Lungfish is one of the major healing forces of the universe
I was there. Lungfish, the Quails, and Barr. Black Eyes was maybe originally slated to play this but didnβt bc we had just broken up. Fucking incredible show, well worth the minorly funky relationship echoes involved on my end (separate from yours). Also is your son into Lungfish???
It was the thing I dreaded having to do for my mother for years, even as I knew it was almost certainly coming. As painful as it was it was the kindest thing we could do for her and for us (and was still often excruciating through the relief). Sending strength
My half-Haitian heart just about leapt out of my chest at that point
I think the trick (which I make no claim of having mastered) is to meet them just ahead of where they are and be like βhey check this thing out around the corner that you canβt quite see yet!β
Iβm having an exhilarating time with my 12th graders reading a Latin epitome of the Aethiopica this year
Subscribed though
Fucking terrible news. Iβm sorry
Iβm so sorry, Jon. Itβs just massively fucked up and heinous
Thanks for reposting this! Iβm reading Martin Krausβ Latin epitome of the Aethiopica with my advanced lit class this year and we are getting ready to shift focus from the narrative structure of the novel to the bigger cultural picture. This will be so useful!
Itβs time to abolish ICE entirely, governor. It is an agency that never should have been created, inimical to democratic values, and unreformably racist. It must be eradicated and its employees and administrators must be held accountable for the immeasurable harm they have done to our communities.
Just got a call from the neurologist that was like βwe didnβt get 3 (of the 30) tests from labcorpβ.
Ok I guess 27/30 is still an A- right?
Oof. Right in the solar plexus
Iβve been tutoring an AP student and itβs prompted me to read letters I havenβt looked at in ages. Administrative letters about aqueducts and different types/processes for citizenship are surprisingly fun and interesting to read and discuss with teenagers (and obvs ghosts and Vesuvius)
Oh wow I didnβt hear about that. The Wild Party is perhaps the book most suited to that apartment
My first apartment! I loved it, weird bugs and all
I just saw the Maya Deren reference in the prior skeet/bleat.whatever we are calling them. I will be checking this criterion collection out as soon as I get back from our California tour weekend!
It was a visceral place π€£

LA and Bay Area friends, Black Eyes is coming through this weekend. Would love to see friends whether at a show or elsewhere!
A graphic for a Vox article saying, literally, βAmerica, you have spoken loud and clear: You do not like AI. But what if AI is the way to restart the worldβs idea machine?β Then the lede is, βWeβre running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.β
Weβre not running out of good ideas, but the tech fetishists who have no ideas other than βbut I put a lot of money and emotion into this basketβ always do, and their narcissism does not allow them to consider that their failed ideas suck, and the flop sweat is palpable.
