I noticed the bug, but I didn't find a newer version in Basinc webpage. As a workaround, save the program as SNA snapshot. Load it into a Spectrum emulator, let it run for a few seconds and then break it. Save the SNA from within the emulator and load it again in Basinc. Tada! problem solved!
Using Boriel BASIC allowed me to write a full recursive solution for M (even ignoring the Y-symmetry). Here's how it behaves with Spectaculator sped up at 100 MHz Z80 frequency.
Here's my take. I took advantage of the Y simetry of the set, and the fact that the M set is connected, so if I can assure that the divergence value for the points at the border of a subset of M are the same, then all points inside the subset have the same divergence value.

How? At the time, home computers were designed either for PAL or NTSC, leaving SECAM out of the market. Amstrad provided an all-in-one solution so you didn't have to mess with video transconding or expensive SECAM versions of video chips (Atari, I'm watching at you and your 8-color version of A2600)

la gráfica y la tarjeta de sonido se las he añadido yo para poder hacer alguna prueba curiosa. Esta placa madre me vino únicamente con la multi IO y unos escasitos 512 K de RAM. encontré dos módulos de cuatro megas cada uno, y ahora creo que tiene más RAM de lo que esta placa ha visto en su vida
hoy he estado rescatando de las guerras de la muerte a una pequeña placa para 386SX. A falta de cambiarle la batería, todo lo demás funciona. Es realmente mini, y todo el chipset está contenido en un único circuito integrado. aparte quedaría la controladora de teclado, el CMOS, y la BIOS
