Yeah, that's why my kid is working way more shifts there than they are supposed to, because they can't get coverage for someone out on medical leave. They're going to burn out the remaining employees if they don't change course.

All the official independents caucus with one or the other party. I'm guessing he's rebranding for election purposes in CA, but will continue to caucus with Mike Johnson. Has he voted against the GOP in any significant votes lately?

Just for the record, "we" didn't downplay the severity of measles. Doctors, public health officials, and we olds/boomers who all suffered through measles have been screaming about it. But the anti-vaxx FB etc. groups have been pushing out false messaging, and younger parents don't know any better.

And reportedly, every last one of them is suffering with painful feet rather than risk showing up wearing something other than the stupid shoes -- so it's yet another really weird loyalty test.

The insurance underwriters and company lawyers also would have strong opinions about this. Piloting through a known war zone would probably be an excluded risk, no?

General rule: Do not laugh at or mock older people working out at the gym. If we're there at all, we're winning. You too will become old some day, if you're lucky.

Exception: If the older person is a member of the Cabinet who regularly posts ridiculous videos of themselves working out.

Yup, pretty standard. I got some for $120 because they were a discontinued model in a not-that-great color.

When I was a kid, you could take your shoes to a cobbler and get new heels and even full soles. No more; now they just wear out.

Having just bought new running/walking shoes, $145 isn't exactly a luxury shoe price right now. He may think it is, but it's not.

The talking points they've obviously given members of Congress about the bill are wildly different from the bill itself. That seems highly problematic, especially in an election year. "No, I didn't vote for ____!" Oh yes you did, you just didn't actually read the bill, and the Cliff Notes lied.

Isn't it just simpler to listen to Rev./Sen. Warnock or the entire Jesse Jackson funeral or Rev. William Barber?

Oh, of course, it has to be a *white* (and male) speaker before it's a credible message.

Several have tried to ask him and/or others in the regime. The answers are not helpful or coherent. Asking him again won't get a more coherent response.

Best guess: June was a long time ago and he no longer has any memory of what he did or said then.

That's the definition of "core base of support."

But that core isn't a governing majority. It's perhaps 1/3, perhaps as low as 1/4. The key is what happens for the middle 20% of the electorate, and all signs are that they're not on board any more. Gas at $5/gal concentrates the mind.

It's obviously designed to knock her out of contention long before she gets any traction. It's like the decades-long anti-Hillary propaganda, which made a significant dent in her reputation and probably cost her the 2016 election.

Floor = thing made of wood

Floor = the body of a meeting. "We'll now take questions from the floor."

Table = thing made of wood

Table = up front where the people in charge sit (and have a table in front of them).

Related, one of my beefs: In American usage, "to table" a motion means to set it aside to be dealt with later, if at all. In British usage, "to table" a motion means to bring it forward as the next topic for decision.

I've been reading Quaker documents from the time of the American Revolution. They consistently use phrases like "the Present Commotion and Distress."

Did he just cut and paste from someone else's campaign for Gov of MN? What? Or is this a complete joke?

It sounds as if the judge is skeptical about this "agreement" and may not approve it -- is that misreading the order?

Celebrating each other’s work. Carrie's got @brookenewman.bsky.social's The Crown’s Silence which explores how British monarchs cultivated transatlantic slavery. Brooke's got @carriegibson.bsky.social's The Great Resistance chronicling the enslaved people who continuously challenged this system.

Another possible explanation: People who have peeled off and oppose Trump (on the Iran war or Epstein or something else) no longer describe themselves to pollsters as "MAGA Republicans." So all it means is "the self-described True Believers are True Believers."

So far he's just said "No biggie, tiny pain, it will go back down quickly," or "no the price isn't going up." And his economics people smile at the camera and say the same.

He flies back and forth to FL with no problem, so why is anyone else upset?

In other words, buckle up.

I suspect women know their work will be double-scrutinized using a double-standard, and therefore work double-hard to make sure there aren't errors. And they aren't brazen enough to deliberately falsify data.

My local circle is relieved to hear this morning that our friend who was visiting Israel managed to get to Jordan, was taken by US military transport to Greece, and hopes to be back in the US within a day or two.

It's good to know there are some US government evacuation flights happening.

A treat, every time. My daughter says when she saw it in Harvard Square, everyone in the theater stood and sang along with The Marseillaise. As one should.

I rarely want to hand it to the NYPD, about anything. But it sounds as if their investigative work managed to avoid catastrophe this time.

Now we need to go after the online influencers who incite this kind of violence.

The fire at Glasgow central station is utterly devastating. Shops, homes and our transport link to England are being wiped out.
I am amazed by the limited news coverage.

Did he argue with Pentagon people over making the military coordinate with civilian air traffic control, to prevent El Paso-type incidents and the DCA crash?

I think it's $4 by next week, and $6 by the end of the month. (The oil companies will tack on a premium and blame it on the war.)

I take it as more evidence that the US isn't in control of this operation; Israel is. But the US regime/military will totally share the blame (and should).
