Just for the record, "we" didn't downplay the severity of measles. Doctors, public health officials, and we olds/boomers who all suffered through measles have been screaming about it. But the anti-vaxx FB etc. groups have been pushing out false messaging, and younger parents don't know any better.
And reportedly, every last one of them is suffering with painful feet rather than risk showing up wearing something other than the stupid shoes -- so it's yet another really weird loyalty test.
The insurance underwriters and company lawyers also would have strong opinions about this. Piloting through a known war zone would probably be an excluded risk, no?

But that core isn't a governing majority. It's perhaps 1/3, perhaps as low as 1/4. The key is what happens for the middle 20% of the electorate, and all signs are that they're not on board any more. Gas at $5/gal concentrates the mind.
It's obviously designed to knock her out of contention long before she gets any traction. It's like the decades-long anti-Hillary propaganda, which made a significant dent in her reputation and probably cost her the 2016 election.
