The "seasoning" on the "seasoned journalist" is clearly "generational wealth and family connections."

This high score on the "Generationally Devastating Administrative Failures Speedrun 100%" leaderboard will be locked in for a long, long time (assuming it's not permanently secured when the whole country is just mothballed during/after the run, which seems increasingly likely).

I am experiencing a similar revelation, and I too believe it has the unsavory telltales of Gender striking.

Has @superdillin.bsky.social worked up the nerve to go ask out his crush yet, or is that particular pose/vibe also ongoing?

Image from the infamous Japanese Parliament Brawl, in which on of the more elderly statesmen clutches the microphone to make a statement while a dogpile of other men fight either to protect or to reach him.

Yeah, this isn't a question they'll ever get away with "not answering" because it's not actually "sensitive" if you're not ashamed of the answer.
Just like all the people who think they're clever by listing their politics as "moderate" - just say it with your chest. If you can't say it, don't do it.

The direction of our culture should not be dictated by the fact that some bigoted parents face a skill issue explaining simple facts from the real world to their children while maintaining the bigotry.

Driving has gotten *significantly* worse since covid began, and I think it’s a combination of factors.

1) people got out of the habit and a lot of us never went back to commuting

2) literal covid brain damage

3) people decided in those years we are no longer a society

Gods, it's so true, though.

The number of projects I have saved by going "Wait, wait, you have this very detailed request to make the system to do X, but from talking to the team, the *problem* is Y and we can solve it better, faster, AND cheaper if we do Z... were you aware we could just do Z?"

A very useful thread about the value of creating the sketch before the painting, the scaffold before the structure, etc, etc.

This gets toward a thought I've had of late as well: polishing is a product of friction. Frictionless processes are not inherently good: the friction adds focus and value.

"The thing that just parrots back the raw text and sentiment fed into it is sounding extremely ANXIOUS lately, isn't that wild and unexpected? Must mean it's capable of conscious thought and introspection AND NOTHING ELSE..."

Sadly my first thought as well - "Takes TWO points to define an axis, no worries."

I am never sure whether it is worse if they invent the Torment Nexus on their own, or after actually reading The Torment Nexus and completely missing the point due to their utter lack of critical thinking skills...

Additionally what so many of the "No one's talking on Bluesky" people are actually saying is "I am lost and confused when there's not an algorithm to shove content into my eyeballs with no effort on my part"

i'll be you a coke no one with stars on their shoulders has really come to grips about embarking on a war (and this is a _war_) that *starts* with majority disapproval

A depiction of the allegory of Plato's Cave in the style of Hellenic pottery art, in which a man puppeteers a shadow of a bird in front of a denizen of the cave, who thus perceives it as the bird itself.

I cannot stress enough that 90% of "new" tech-bro-induced problems are already covered by an education in the humanities...

Ooooohhhh, see, NOW I get it, it's a super double-secret probationary state of war, no tagbacks.

These lying fucking ghouls, man.

LOL thank you, you have saved me the trouble of tagging Dillin to point out this would be an excellent hack/reskin collab.

Complete with inconvenient resurrections, though maybe less risk of duplication... πŸ€”

(Also just wild for mainstream media to suddenly pretend to be defending effeminate men. I can assure the author that all anti-trans discourse is about policing *anyone* who doesn't perform their assigned gender "properly", and it will be weaponized against nonconforming cis people as well.)

I am fascinated at people publishing the "deep" thought process of "If society had been different in my youth and I had been exposed to different social constructs, I might have lived a different life!"

Yes, that's how social constructs WORK. You might have felt differently given different options!

I'm impressed by the people who think The Teachers are fundamentally rewiring their children...

Meanwhile every teacher I know is like "I wish I could convince these kids that I can tell when they copy their friend's AI-generated homework assignment and then I have to fail them for *two* reasons."

Jim Steinman was always an absolute madman (see also the *radio announcer* in the middle of the eight-and-a-half-minute original cut of Paradise by the Dashboard Light), but also, I don't think we really acknowledge the debt we owe, as a culture, to the film Footloose.

In a related thought, that is part of why I like being signed up for permanent mail-in ballot status. Previously for many reasons I found it difficult to keep informed for local elections and ballot measures, now I can take my time to research anything I missed with the real thing in hand.

I often feel like the people who think their vote doesn't count, and that their voice will go unheard, are specifically the ones who ignore politics on the level where individual action absolutely counts, hyper local and primary levels, and of course support before and beyond voting...
