MANDATORY TIMELINE CLEANSE
MANDATORY TIMELINE CLEANSE
the hilarious thing is that these "mistakes" describe the Dark Soul series
I mean, if you make a gentle person's agreement that everything is not canon and acts as a big "what if?" episode, I think you are fine. They dont have enough tome to do ANY of this, but man, I wish they did.
Agreed. There should be stories, but they ABSOLUTELY should not be canonized, but also worth it to read what @tacticalnukevin.bsky.social 's very *smart* brain has to say about it.
I had the great honor of designing the logo for THE AWARDS this year!
I also almost gave into that one.
yeah, once it becomes time to buy the cards I snap out of it, but they almost had me...
And as someone who does appreciate that good design takes time and effort, I can appreciate how the MTG creative team simply don't have time to do more than represent these other characters in UB and then "Whoop!" time for the next set.
I want them to have more time to really cook.
I know it's a new sport to pick on the MTG creative team, but I personally think it's amazing to do what they do with the schedules they have and the size of team they have.
I don't think ppl understand how long good design can take.
Universes Beyond could be amazing if it could go deeper, rather than being a drive-by.
And what's painful is that these aggressive release cycles simply don't allow for it. There is no way you can do that deep integration and go through the necessary back and forth approvals without time.
... the planeswalkers are double-sided cards whose other side is a vehicle. Each side lets you transform into the other side.
And even a one-set UB lets you tell a cool little story via the cards and lets long time fans enjoy the IP through the POV of their favorite MTG characters.
Imagine, MTG x Transformers. Jace and friends come to Cybertron as the Phyrexians link up with the Decepticons to make a technoplague fueled by energon.
We have a set of "Transformed" planeswalkers that represent planeswalkers paired with an Autobot...
Each UB should be the story of how our known planeswalkers and characters enter that universe and have some adventure.
(Yeah, I know they've de-emphasized and de-powered planeswalkers, but I also think that's kinda dumb)
There should be cards that represent Jace and Optimus Prime as a team, forex
My problem with UB (which touches on some of problems with MTG overall) is not the crossover; it's the fact that they don't go far enough and let their creatives *cook*.
Every UB should be a crossover with the story of MTG. I mean, it's in the concept of the fiction and the entire game!?!!?
The sinister genius of Universes Beyond is this:
no matter how you feel about it, there is going to be some card or set of cards that strain your principled stand.
Forex, I hate UB but I love my Junji Ito Secret Lair I got from @tacticalnukevin.bsky.social and @wakandasking.bsky.social
"TMNT Magic set, sigh... Fortnite-ification of MTG, blah blah blah -- wait, Usagi Yojimbo?
With Stan Sakai art?
๐"
That's how they get you every time. I don't even play MTG anymore and I want that card, lol
Nice!
Can't change now.
Done!
Comparing games to each other is often a complete waste of time. Since TTRPGs rely *heavily* on cognitive fit, games can appeal to different minds in wildly varying ways.
Comparing what a game promises to what that game delivers is very underrated and extremely productive.
We are all pointing the same gun at each other lol
Trying to raise money to cover travel expenses to BreakoutCon, please share around!
If Epstein didnt need *credit*, he might still be doing his ghastly work bc it would be that much harder to pin anything on him.
The ability to get away with it is always at war with the urge to express that you're getting away with it.
First, conceal your identity. Then conceal that you are concealing your identity.
Ad Infinitum.
Get enough masks and you are a ghost in plain sight.
What is frightening is that the only thing that unmasks the worst of the worst is their own ego.
Absolutely. The major innovations in "mask" economies are... <drumroll> masks for your masks!
Gotta go start my day, but I'll share soon what I see coming, a vision that I dub "Islands of Innovation".
You have to understand that the Internet as a medium of human connection is dying/dead; it is owned by the machines.
But you also have to understand that something better is coming, a more resilient and profound way of connecting to others.
It is network effects that got us here, and it is network effects that will get us to where we need to be. The bleak picture is desribe is not desirable or inevitable, but to understand what we *should* do, we first have to understand were we are going.
There is no one solid answer to combat this, just lots of smaller ones that network and form communities of innovation, support, and knowledge.
Delegation and command in this vision of the world are the "true" skills of creation, worthy of visibility.
"I made this!" he proclaimed, holding up his little square of paper while standing on a pyramid of labor.
Immigrant labor forces weren't a) invisible enough b) numerous enough to power their technofeudalist fantasies, so the rollout here is a full stratification between invisible and visible work.
