How, who, and why: NPR flips its famous letters to defend the right to be curious NPR is standing up for the public's right to ask hard questions in a national campaign dubbed "For your right to be curious." At NPR's headquarters, on billboards in New York City, Chicago, and Washin...

All stories - all art of any kind - begins with three letters - "who," "why," and "how."

Art is born of curiosity and the need to learn the truth and facts... of the character(s), of the driving force(s), of the means/manner/way what happens happened.

The best poetry, in my mind is rooted in the here and now, yet always relevant, always timeless.

Everything is engineered for viral-ness, and there’s no guarantee how much engagement you’ll get. Even with the large following we have at ONLY POEMS, we can have one post get nearly 2M views while another, posted around the same time, gets less than 20K. I hate that this is the case now, but that’s the world we live in and unless we all want to head off-grid, we gotta try and learn the ropes just a little.Right now, however, I want you to feel less overwhelmed about trying to figure social media exposure. So, I’ve compiled a list of lit mags that are worth pursuing if one of the things you’re afterβ€”yes, reallyβ€”is social media attention. Once in a while, we all want some validation. Getting your work read by kindred spirits in the ether is hardly a bad way to go about it!Now, these mags might not necessarily have massive follower counts (though some do!) but they do have consistent engagement. They also have editorial presence. Meaning, you can tell the people behind it care about the work they’re putting out, about the writers they platform, about those writers being read. Which we should all look for in lit mags, whether or not we want to be literary social media stars 🌟#writingcommunity #litmag #poetry #literarymagazine #writersofinstagram

Minnesota's indie bookstores are standing up for the right to speak, assemble, and be heard. Here's how readers everywhere can stand with them:

I need to be so busy I can't doomscroll. I want to find amazing projects and spread joy and positive messages. So, I'm reopening to queries for a week or up to 500 submissions, whichever comes first, starting February 9th. Looking particular for unique perspectives and fresh voices.

I feel the same but with all social media.

I like Brynne Weaver's books (serial killers falling in love with serial killers killing serial killers). I'm not sure if they fit the exact parameters for action/thrillers BUT they're good 'n spicy/fiery AND gory with murdery/sexual tension and [justifiable?] homicide. JS. πŸ€·πŸΏβ€β™€οΈ

I am greatly appreciating this current trend of action/thrillers with whole ass good romances in them. Drop has one too and it totally works.

The Art of Connective Tissue: What Raymond Carver Teaches Us About Building Character and Showing | Jane Friedman Small bits of actionβ€”descending the stairs, cleaning off the carβ€”might not be insignificant if they tell something about a character’s world.

Most writing advice tells you to cut ruthlessly.

But what if some of the most powerful writing happens in the spaces between your β€œimportant” scenes?

Author Seth Harwood offers powerful insight into storytelling using Raymond Carver as an example.
