—Denise Levertov, “Goodbye to Tolerance”
We shan’t meet again—
unless you leap it, leaving
behind you the cherished
worms of your dispassion,
your pallid ironies,
your jovial, murderous,
wry-humored balanced judgment,
leap over, un-
balanced? ... then
how our fanatic tears
would flow and mingle
for joy ...
Goodbye, goodbye,
your poems
shut their little mouths,
your loaves grow moldy,
a gulf has split
the ground between us,
and you won’t wave, you’re looking
another way.
It is my brothers, my sisters,
whose blood spurts out and stops
forever
because you choose to believe it is not your business.
And you, good women, bakers of nicest bread,
blood donors. Your crumbs
choke me, I would not want
a drop of your blood in me, it is pumped
by weak hearts, perfect pulses that never
falter: irresponsive
to nightmare reality.
Goodbye, goodbye,
I don’t care
if I never taste your fine food again,
neutral fellows, seers of every side.
Tolerance, what crimes
are committed in your name.
Genial poets, pink-faced
earnest wits—
you have given the world
some choice morsels,
gobbets of language presented
as one presents T-bone steak
and Cherries Jubilee.
Argument II. The Court Should Stay This Case Pending FDA's Mifepristone REMS Review. Alternatively, the Court Should Dismiss the Case.. A. The Court lacks subject matter jurisdiction.... FDA's actions do not cause "sovereign harm"….. The States' alleged pocketbook injuries do not establish standing.. В. The States cannot sue the Federal Government as parens patriae. Intervenor Plaintiffs failed to administratively exhaust their claims... Challenges to the 2016 Action are time-barred Conclusion 8 8 9 9 10 12 .13 .14 15 .15
OK, I will admit that I have not done any historical review here, but it is wild to me that DOJ is filing a motion to stay and — alternatively — to dismiss the case altogether for three independent reasons. And yet, in the unending mifepristone challenge (now in Missouri), that's what DOJ did today.
Great analysis from @cherylrofer.bsky.social…
…& I will remind everyone that 60% HEU is theoretically, & appears practically, directly weapons usable (eg can be made into weapon w/o additional enrichment).
Israel & USA have overwhelming military superiority re: Iran.
no rational/logical reason for either state to use nuclear weapons, ceteris paribus.
No, of course nuclear weapons practices are not rational/logical & even so, USA or Israel nuking Iran seems really unlikely, ceteris paribus.
And, as noted in the thread, there is almost certainly some guidance/policy/memo on AUSA/US Attorney’s Office use of AI.
If you have any such document or information, please reach out/send it my way. I’m on Signal at crg.32
Rachel Maddow called Bill a genius of exposition. Which rings true to me. Who else finds such clear, concise, vivid ways to sum up where we are and where we could and should be?
Jack Dorsey is fundamentally not a very bright man
the "nuh uh" presidency
Seems troubling.
More troubling would be the idea that the Administration might have bombed Iran without expecting this.
Our Prius, aka Carrito, gets something over 50 mph.
the entire trump era has been the old joke about the dog who caught the car, if the dog then dragged the driver out and mauled him and then got in the car and drove it off the cliff
(in this parable, america is the car, I'm not sure who the driver is, this is just an internet post)
but why are two teletubbies watching that jet land. Dipsy and Tinky Winky, *don't do war*.
I think we gotta give trump a break here, who could have possibly foreseen that a new war of choice in Iran would in any way impact the price of oil
...wait I'm getting an update
Remember the real enemies are the enemies within, not Russia or China!
And then eats a pint of ice cream.
Russia trying to kill Americans is just so ho-hum.
Stanley Woodward and Abhishek Kambli have embarrassed the legal profession multiple times this week.
I’m glad Prasad is gone. He should be gone. We’re all better off that he’s gone.
But let’s not fool ourselves that his replacement is gonna be better. We still have to fight for vaccines We *must* keep fighting.
It’s so bizarre because he’s acting as if the inverse thing has occurred - as if Doocy is asking about college athletics while they’re holding an event about war and death.
This is one of the most jaw dropping moments of Trump’s presidency. Up there with brainstorming about injecting bleach and shining light up orifices to cure COVID.
I’ve spent years, decades, obsessing over the Bush Administration’s Iraq WMD lies, writing about them, debunking them.
I can think of no lie about Iraq WMDs told by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld et al that comes even close to the enormity and absurdity of this lie from Donald Trump.
I concur.
The killing of Iranian children during an illegal war is an impeachable offense (not to mention a grave crime) and Congress should really act like it.
15 Republicans in the Senate could end this nightmare before it somehow gets even worse.
