xan'a thum and ati amati, two miqo'tes (ati is actually half hhetsarro half lalafell), are standing in the wolves den pier. they are standing and leaning on each other; Xan'a is a green haired moon keeper wearing a black pleather bunny suit, fishnets, stilettos, and a little jacket. He also has a velvetted gnome hat on his head. He is leaning over to rest his elbow on Ati's head. Ati has purple hair and fur, a green furlined jacket, armored gloves, red bikini on her ati amati's, and cut-out chaps on her legs with little ribbon and bell tied to her peets. They both seem to be talking jovially to each other, while Ati smokes and drinks a monster energy drink.

I'm actually still mad about that drawing, I have to fix it.

The answer is twofold; Part of the genetic information to make arms is stored in the arm, but perhaps more importantly, the amputee percieves their body, missing the leg, to be the correct state of their body. To heal without the leg would be proper. Thus saith the memory.

People also have this, but they're more complicated because the consciousness gets involved. Consider, by way of example an amputee. A pirate has his leg amputated 5 years ago in a shark attack and has been wearing a peg leg for that time. Why, when healed, would his leg not grow back?
