Pisciottano legislation targets hidden swipe fees - Mon Valley Independent He contends businesses shouldn’t be charged on the tax portion of customer purchases.

My bill would prohibit credit card companies from charging fees on the sales tax portion of transactions in PA to support small businesses, protect consumers, and help ease inflationary pressure by keeping more money in local communities.

Everyone is feeling the squeeze of rising costs, so when I recently learned that credit card processing companies like VISA and Mastercard are charging businesses swipe fees for sales taxes - money the business isn't keeping - I decided to introduce legislation to fix that unfair situation.

β€œSmall businesses are being charged a fee on collecting tax dollars they don’t even keep,” Pisciottano said. β€œWhen a family spends $100 at a restaurant and pays $6 in sales tax, the business must send that $6 to the state. Yet the credit card company charges its fee on the full $106."

I was in Harrisburg this week for a budget hearing with the Senate Appropriations Committee. This first step in the budget process helps guide legislators as we work to negotiate a budget that funds everything from schools to public transit to senior services here in Allegheny County and across PA.

Bread & milk shouldn’t cost more because of what time of day you get to the store. Dynamic pricing - it’s a new way of taking more money out of your pocket.

We’re teaming up with @pasenate.com for a joint hearing on it, hosted by @repmaryisaacson.com & @senpisciottano.com. Watch: PaHouse.com/Policy

These days, who can afford to take twelve weeks of unpaid parental leave? Almost no one, but that's all that federal law guarantees. Hear more about my efforts to change that for PA in my conversation with oneBURGH, and catch the full video here: pasenatornick.com/sen-pisciott...

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape our daily lives, we need to ensure that folks know when they're dealing with AI and not a real human. That's why I wrote a bipartisan bill to require notice when you are interacting with AI online.

The price you pay for a loaf of bread shouldn't depend on when you go to the grocery store and it shouldn't change between getting the loaf off the shelf and getting to the checkout. I've introduced legislation to ban this practice, known as dynamic pricing, for essential goods like eggs and milk.

Raised in a musical family and first making a name for himself in the Pittsburgh jazz scene of the 1920s, Hines would go on to play with famous jazz musicians, including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Pittsburgh's Billy Strayhorn, ultimately revolutionizing jazz piano for decades to come.

As we observe Black History Month throughout February, I want to highlight some hometown Black history! Born in Duquesne in 1903, Earl "Fatha" Hines was one of the country's most influential jazz pianists, commonly known as the father of modern jazz piano.
