Medievalist 900-1200ish England and Normandy most of the time. Immigrant and misplaced Hoosier in the south of England when not in Wales. Usually tired. Trustee @castlestudies.bsky.social. She/her. Insta @katherineweikert

Ddi you get to the part where she poisoned more or less everyone and was killed by beheading in her bathtub? Definitely NOT Lee ๐

(Who I was willing to look favourable upon thanks to his mother)
Oooo wait, I haven't read him. Is he as insufferable as Dudo writes Louis d'Outremer?
Oh my sweet baby jesus, just reading Dudo makes me want to tell every single man in Normandy and Francia in the early 940s just to get in the sea
The only reason I can handle that is because I say in my head 'worchestershire' like how I called the sauce growing up ๐คทโโ๏ธ
For some reason I can do Leicester, but it's probably because I spent the first 10 years here calling it 'LYE-chester'. Bicester, though - I had to have training before I could even say it out loud at work. Because apparently it's not 'BYE-chester'...
Grates my nerves? Grinds my teeth? All of em I guess ๐
Ohhhh Robert of <bulkreplace1> is going to be my new favourite character now
Winc(e) away! It grates my teeth to see 'Winch' :)
It's the only sensible solution!
Oh yeah, I feel you. I'm also that asshole who insists on abbreviating it 'Wincs' so I'm also the problem though
Every now and again I really struggle in spelling Gloucester, which is a real pain when I'm actually writing about Robert of Gloucester.
blue steel!
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Well placed!
Him: what are you thinking about?
Me: Paul Bettany in A Knight's Tale

Congratulations!!! I'm going to add this to my charters module, stat :)
This has been a slog but Iโm pleased to day that Iโm currently checking the proofs, which means this book will soon be out in the wild!
Oh yes, like forgetting half the book existed...
Hahahahaha. That's a good one. Can't wait to watch it
Thanks ๐ ๐
Bursaries for London Rare Book School courses including this one are available thanks to @bibsoc.bsky.social! ๐
Honestly, I haven't watched it, too close to the bone. Is it a bit Dales-y?
Ohhh this one is on my list to watch. Red clay is not a Cumbria thing is it??
I actually liked the bits of aging decay we could see of WH, Tudor panelling and the Queen Anne black-and-white, like you could see moments when the estate had money and now it clearly doesn't. The QA palette fits with dark/light dichotomy of WH and TG (Neoclassical exterior definitely a choice.)
