Alaa Hamoudi was very unlucky to end up in the hands of Frontex and its Greek partners, but his luck turned when Bashar found him, and thanks to Bashar and his colleagues from @lighthousereports.com and @bellingcat.com, Alaa’s case was ultimately brought before the @eucourtofjustice.bsky.social
Karim is a young asylum seeker from Sudan. He is trapped in Libya living under constant threat of abduction, extortion, & arbitrary detention by armed groups. Karim has been diagnosed with diabetes and needs consistent care, medication, and safe access to food

“When Hans Leijtens instructs the officer on duty to pass on the location of a refugee boat to the Libyan militia, both know that the intercepted refugees will be exposed in Libya to crimes against humanity "

“Thousands of people who, until now, had no chance of simply accessing the Court. I’m not talking about winning or losing a case - just knocking on the Court’s door and seeing a judge willing to provide judicial protection.”

Vincent, if you wish to come clean and share more information about pullback operations jointly committed by Frontex and Libyan militias, or to receive legal advice regarding your personal liability, DM us.
Vincent actually helps Libyan militias intercept refugee boats and pull them back to Libya, where the “rescued” refugees are subjected to rape, torture, slavery, and murder upon disembarkation.
FM v Frontex is still pending before the @eucourtofjustice.bsky.social

…very well done to all involved…
Signal boost welcome — the case still needs support
Last week, Alaa convinced the Grand Chamber to set new rules on evidence in all Frontex pushback cases.
Judges found his account ‘sufficiently detailed, specific and consistent’ and sent the case back.
Continuing this litigation is costly.
If you can, help us pursue Alaa’s case
Frontex accused of blundering own 'safeguards' after Syrian refugee wins EU court battle
“Lawyers representing a Syrian refugee say...Frontex fails to grasp what its own so-called ‘strengthened safeguards’ might look like in practice… Hamoudi… took his case all the way to the general court … which he then lost… despite Hamoudi's pushback having also been documented by @bellingcat.com”
Gracias, querida Estrella!
Pasó un poco desapercibido pero ayer la justicia europea tomó una decisión histórica. Dio la razón por primera vez a un refugiado en su denuncia contra Frontex por su devolución en caliente www.rtve.es/n/16864703/
@lolahierro.bsky.social in @elpais.com said: "The CJEU has entered an unexplored land on Thursday by issuing for the first time a sentence that blames Frontex."
“The case came to public attention thanks to the investigative collective @bellingcat.com , which reconstructed the “phantom landing.”
Our Alaa Hamoudi to the @washingtonpost.com said the "ruling was not only a personal victory but “an important step toward justice for the men, women, and children who went through the same experience as I did ... and could not fight back.”
#Frontex #Refugeerights #humanrights
Frontex impunity might stop today, but as Alaa said: "many others are still stripped of their rights every day at the borders of Europe."
We need more Bellingcat and more people to document and collect evidence to hold Frontex to account. ✊
The judges said that people pushed back are:
"in a position which makes it very difficult for them to collect evidence for the purpose of proving such facts, or even excludes any possibility of their doing so at all" 👇
The work of Bellingcat and the open-source intelligence done on the case has been essential to bringing the case to the Court.
The new standards of evidence decided by the Grand Chamber show even more how needed that work will be in the future. 👇
Good news of the day 🔆
