Very solid list but whereβs Sentimental Value?
Uh oh. We never met.
I know youβre not looking for films but the documentary Sacred by Thomas Lennon is stunningly beautiful and I think would make a great fit. (I canβt seem to include a link but google it)
Very moody here tonight.
And to my shock and surprise, Iβve found I love writing.
(Btw, you may not be fishing but Iβll bite anyway. You ARE great at it.)
I donβt consider myself a writer, Iβm a documentary filmmaker. But ever since I launched a Substack 3 months ago and decided a new post needs to come out weekly, well, maybe I am at that. And once I ask for paid subscriptions (soon, very soon!) I can even call myself a professional writer, woo hoo!
Iβm tired of Instagram so Iβm posting my photos here. Hopefully will provide a bit of relief from all the non-stop wretched news.

NYC today
After sundown last night.
Nobody sees my Bluesky posts, so Iβll put up some favorite photos here and there for my own amusement.
James Mangold, Timothee Chalamet, Elle Fanning and Edward Norton after a rousing Academy screening of βA Complete Unknownβ last night.
This has been making the rounds.
This is good
An ever-changing film about art and creativity that itself is a work of art. And in this age of generative AI, could well go down as a landmark in cinema.
I'm going to post this video every day so we never forget
Incompetence may turn out to be the only guardrail.
Nice try. Fuck off!
Dramatic sky just now.
Why canβt Bluesky be a place for #photograhy?
Jello. Cranberry sauce close behind.
Nope. And the price isnβt right at all.
The film that stood out for me at DOC NYC this past week was the stunning βTwo Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other.β Hands down the best cinematography Iβve ever seen in a verite documentary. And among the very best docs in recent memory, period. Itβs streaming til Dec 1 via the DOC NYC website.
Ok, itβs mine but you might like 51 Birch Street: www.dougblock.com/51-birch-str...
What better way to commemorate my first Bluesky post than with a red sky photo?
