Where Nier represents self destructive sacrifice for someone who does not want it, Automata represents letting go of something meaningful to help someone else. Nier is death at the hands of ego, Automata is the relinquishing of ego. They're a beautiful pair that reinforce each other.

(ending A will feel like beating the game; keep going. each “playthrough” will be about half as long as the previous one and twice as interesting)
there’s some gameplay shakeups and shifts as it goes along, but once you have the combat down it stays pretty straightforward, with the exception of different weapon styles. if you don’t find yourself caring about the characters and story by that point tho, I’m not sure you’ll enjoy what is on offer
it’s uncalled for when lots of people presume they know why i like automata more than nier, wasn’t aimed at you
i know a lot of people say “you just like automata because the controls are a little better and the robot girl has her butt out, original nier is better” and I don’t even bother correcting them because i Know they are wrong; nier doesn’t have automata’s ending E.
i very nearly said ending E is the best level in all of video games, but it won’t feel like it until you get to a certain point, and you really do need to play the whole thing for it to Mean Something To You.
ending E of Nier Automata is the single best “scene” in all of video games, and justifies the concept of multiplayer in games all by itself. if you don’t already know it, don’t look it up. go play *all* of nier automata. ending E is the culmination and implementation of everything the game is saying
