This is such a depressing read. Ironically, now humanitarianism is collapsing, there have probably never been so many people trained in humanitarian action. A generation of young people who will never use their skills. Or maybe this urge to professionalization was part of what went wrong?

One of the best independent journalism models is @thecontinent.org, probably the one African publication that I can read calmly in the balcony in Lisbon as it is delivered straight to my WhatsApp (for free!)- feels like getting a weekly newspaper delivered on my doorstep, thousand of miles away

Picture's legend: "Unfiltered: The dust storm turned Libya more
orange than a septuagenerian fascistโs facecloth"
Read @thecontinent.org : not only is this native African weekly newspaper (yes, actual traditional slow paced newspaper, not web pages) always on point with its selection of news and its analysis - but they are humorous too !

Today is, among other things, a reminder that you don't get a general strike by posting that we should have a general strike.
You get a general strikeโon the rare occasions you doโby the long slow slog of building organizing power with those around you in response to local conditions.

The broad consensus was that Mark Carney gave the best speech at Davos while Trump gave a whiny, low-energy snooze-fest where he kept mixing up countries, so naturally Trump is posting that he wonโt be Carneyโs friend which undoubtedly devastates Carney and Canadians everywhere.

Massive EU funding cut looms for health NGOs
NGOs have been briefed that grants will be cut by 50 percent.
It's depressing following the news around #USAID & it makes me wonder...with the far-right rising in Europe, will we be seeing a similar situation play out with European aid & development funding, including for European CSOs. E.g. see this news from last year: www.politico.eu/article/fear...

Do Audiobooks Count As Reading?
YouTube video by vlogbrothers
This reminds me of a Portuguese author I love saying how she usually reads drafts of her books to hear friends to "test the rhythm" of the writing.
Yes, audiobooks are (another type of) reading ๐
