🌿 Trees aren’t the only way to cool cities
New research by @ecioxford.bsky.social DPhil student Camilla Hyslop finds native grasslands in Johannesburg can cool neighbourhoods just as effectively as urban forests & were nearly 2°C cooler than heavily built-up areas.

Climate policies are cutting carbon, new study shows - Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research Researchers report that well-designed climate policies prevented more than three billion tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2022, demonstrating that policy design is critical to effective decarbonisation.

Climate policy works if it's well designed.

A study co-authored by @uniofeastanglia.bsky.social, @ecioxford.bsky.social / @ox.ac.uk, Cardiff, LSE + Heidelberg finds 3 billion tonnes+ of CO2 were avoided in 2022 compared with a no-policy scenario: roughly the EU's annual emissions >

Dirty water, death and decline: the inside story of a privatisation scandal There is no end in sight to the pollution caused by a ‘broken’ system. Experts say it could even be getting worse

“None of us can expect every service to be 100% reliable in the face of big shocks to the system, but we should at least know what we can reasonably expect from different utilities when extreme events occur.” Prof Jim Hall, ECI, in The Guardian.
