A golden medal and a small pin in a blue velvet case. The medal reads "Für hervorragende sportliche Leistungen 2024/2025"
no, it's not for making it through the academic year (but maybe there should be medals too)

Speaking of great conferences tomorrow 😊
Great conference (that's still running tomorrow, @goetheuni.bsky.social ) looking at gender from different disciplinary perspectives. Certainly there are (productive) disciplinary differences but also many shared struggles, shared hopes, and certainly a shared feeling of necessity & urgency
Interessant zu sehen, wo sich die FDP im Frankfurter Kommunalwahlkampf politisch so einreiht.
Join us for an international workshop on "Fan Practices of Memory and Remembrance" in Marburg on 27 February 🗣️ Personally looking forward to the fanfiction presentations in particular, but, of course, we have fascinating talks on other fan practises too!

Annual Fanficforum conference in the books & once again amazed at the interesting work done in fanfic studies across academic levels, from BA term paper to PhD thesis. Thank you to everyone who joined & especially to @julianeugarten.bsky.social whose keynote was a great start to our day!
Protest zum #Hochschulaktionstag in Frankfurt. Niemand hier hat eigentlich Zeit, gerade deswegen wichtig, da zu sein.
#fanfic conference this Friday!
We've got a keynote on #ecocriticism & fanfic about Greek myth and student presentations offering insights into #harrypotter, #00Q, #prideandprejudice, #alchemised and #bridgerton.
If that sounds interesting, join us via Zoom or in person!

If you're interested in #fanfiction in academic terms (or interested in fanfiction full stop) check out our student conference next week (accessible online)!
Very much looking forward to the keynote by @julianeugarten.bsky.social & exciting presentations by BA & MA students from Germany and the UK.

Thank you to everyone on the organising committee for making this such a great event, for being welcoming and helpful at all times, and to all speakers for their amazing papers!

Spent 2 wonderful days in Bamberg for #BritCult2025 last week. Lots of truly inspiring talks, urgency but also solidarity as speakers tackled questions around how to do gender/queer/trans studies in these challenging times. Already had several great conversations sparked by this since returning home
Wonderful day at Comicfestival Hamburg, talking about the creative, academic & political potential (& challenges) of fanfic, listening to fan comic readings, interesting podiums and presentations and a great talk by my colleague Vanessa Ossa on the specifics of comic fandom.
The CfP for the 1st themed issue of our journal Fandom | Cultures | Research is out & I'm especially excited for this one, since it combines two of the things I'm most interested in: #fanstudies & #memorystudies. Added bonus: a workshop in Marburg in Feb 26.

a row of three stylised emoji hands: clapping, doing a (millenial) heart, giving a thumbs up. below in teal the title of the journal "Fandom | Cultures | Research" and in grey and all caps underneath it the subtitle "online journal for fan and audience studies"
Issue 1|25 of Fandom | Cultures | Research has been published! It not only includes articles, book reviews, and conference reports (including on our Fanficforum Frankfurt conference in Jan.). We've also opened a new section for Fandom Voices where long-time fans share their experiences.

No Cuts protest at @goetheuni.bsky.social - glad to see many of my students and colleagues, despite the heat, despite the neverending to-do lists
pieces of coloured paper in lilac and light blue that are taped to a wall. Hand-written notes on them say things like creativity and I love literature but also credit points :)

Asked students in my fanfic seminar today to share why they're doing this degree/class. The answers were a healthy mixture of inspiring & grounding.
I'm all for OA but still a bit proud to see some of my writing published in an actual print book for the first time. Also, nice to have another German-language publication on fanfic - there's still so little here!

Weiterlesen: www.lueckenliste.de
If you're in Frankfurt on 19 Feb: I am co-hosting a workshop on The Classics [but mostly Dante] in Fanfiction and Adaptation with colleagues from the Romance Studies. Very excited to hear takes on fanfic appropriating classic texts and authors from three different philological contexts!
