In Japan there are 36 words for walking!

Like Japanese cities, the language is highly pedestrian friendly

BURRADOO, 139km from Central, is a quiet station that feels rural but actually has plenty of houses around it. It has two basic platforms and a pedestrian level crossing, but there's no access from the west side.

The northbound platform has one of Canberra's iconic bus shelters. I think it's lost!

All while prices in everyday spending categories like food (and now gas) continue to soar higher.

Not great.

For gaming, expect to see f2p, subs and the big live service games continue to take more share.

The state Labor party today announced it would spend $3.5 million to trial an Australian-first battery passenger train trial if re-elected, while the SA Liberals were out bagging their rival’s ambulance ramping record.

Labor would trial a battery passenger train on the Belair rail line, which currently uses modified diesel hybrid trains. The party said there were no battery passenger trains in operation in Australia.

Labor would trial a battery passenger train on the Belair rail line, which currently uses modified diesel hybrid trains. The party said there were no battery passenger trains in operation in Australia.

The party promised to work with industry to develop the specific requirements for the Belair line, which is not compatible with traditional overhead electric infrastructure.

Labor pointed to successful networks of battery passenger trains in Japan, Ireland, Croatia and America.

β€œIf the trial is successful, it could save taxpayers millions of dollars, removing the need for overhead infrastructure to electrify passenger rail lines,” Labor’s Emily Bourke said.

β€œFollowing the success of the battery bus trial, we are replacing the old diesel buses with new electric ones, and we have the same ambition to phase out the diesel hybrid trains.”

The Liberals’ public transport policy to date is a commitment to making all regular Adelaide Metro fares 50 cents.

The Greens this week announced a plan to return passenger rail to the Adelaide Hills via an extension of the Belair Line to Mount Barker, saying it would cost $700 million, with trains to run every half hour.

I like living in low-rise walk-up apartments myself but I don’t try to turn that into the law because:

1. Other people have different needs and preferences.

2. It’s not my only priority. I’d absolutely consider living taller if the price, size, location, or set of amenities was more appealing.

The biggest drawback of driverless cars ο»ΏDriverless cars could save thousands of lives. They might also break our cities.

"AVs almost by definition lower the friction and costs associated with driving ... And we already know, from the last century-plus of experience in the US, what happens when we make driving easier: We will get more of it. And more concrete and asphalt infrastructure to accommodate it."

Seattle's code limits midrise single-stair apartment buildings to 4 apartments per floor.

The International Building Code (which, despite the name, is rarely used outside the US) allows two-stair apartment buildings more than 600' long, with dozens of apartments per floor.
