The image is a landscape photo of a river in fall. The deciduous trees on the banks of the river show bright orange fall foliage. The large conifers rising above the deciduous trees are Eastern White Pines.

Lovely!
The image shows White Water-lilies floating on the water in a marsh in the Adirondack Park of upstate New York. This photo was taken on the Heron Marsh Trail at the Paul Smiths VIC β a nature preserve. Heron Marsh hosts a lot of wetland plants and birds. Itβs a great place to see ducklings in the spring and early summer.

A large, handsome blue-grey bird is stalking its way through the water on the edge of a small stream in autumn. Fall foliage is reflected in the background. The bird has an orange-yellow bill, a dark crown, and yellow eyes. This photo was taken on the Black Pond Trail in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.

A gray and white bird with a very long tail is perched on the branch of a conifer in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. These birds used to be called Gray Jays, but Canadian birders lobbied to have the name changed, in hopes that the Gray Jay would be named the national bird of Canada. A bill to formalize the designation was introduced last May, but itβs still in committee.

Scenic shot of a mountain range in the distance with a calm lake in the foreground. The sky is streaked with pink, which is reflected in the water. This lake is near Lake Placid in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. I go there often for the bird life, particularly Common Loons which I often see fishing on the lake.

The image shows a mountain range off in the distance, with a snow-covered field in the foreground. This photo was taken on one of the walking trails at Heaven Hill. The trails go through a wide variety of habitats, including meadows, old fields, successional forest, hardwood forest, mixed conifer-hardwood forest, and several types of swamps. It's very close to where I live, so I go there often for the great scenic views and the wide variety of wildlife and plants I see along the trails.

Nice! I love the clouds.
An eye-catching gray bird with a bright orange belly is sitting on a branch with blue sky in the background. This is an American Robin. Here in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, we seldom see these handsome birds during the cold winter months, so for us a robin sighting is a reassuring sign that spring is coming. Spring actually doesnβt arrive here until April.

A very dapper black bird with white back, black underparts, and a yellow patch on the nape is sitting on the top of a fence post. This is one of the Bobolinks who breed on the hay meadows at Heaven Hill Farm near Lake Placid in upstate New York. Bobolinks winter in southern South America every year. They return to our part of the Adirondack Mountains in May.

Thank you! One of my favorite haunts in all seasons.

Scenic view of a boardwalk through a bog in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. In contrast to most conifers, which retain their needles all year around, the Tamarack sheds its needles every year in the fall. The glossy needles appear in soft tufts in spring and are initially apple green in color, changing to blue-green as the season progresses. In late summer and early fall, the needles gradually change color, first to a greenish-yellow. The needles then gradually change to a brilliant orange before they are shed. In our region, most Tamaracks begin the color change in early October, with peak color in late October after most of the hardwoods have dropped their leaves.

The trunk and branches of a Paper Birch tree are outlined against a late December sky. We have a lot of wonderful trees around our house, but I think this is my favorite.
One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.

A brilliant blue bird is sitting on a branch, posing against a vibrant green background of leaves. This is a male Indigo Bunting. Actually, the brilliant azure blue of male Indigo Buntings in breeding plumage is an illusion. Those lovely feathers arenβt really blue, but appear so in bright light because of microscopic structures in the birdβs feathers that reflect blue light. This bird appears to be a vivid turquoise blue because he is singing in the bright sunlight filtering through the branches.

A small bird with a blue-gray head is sitting on a branch at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site near Lake Placid in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Itβs a Blue-headed Vireo. The John Brown Farm State Historic Site includes the home and final resting place of abolitionist John Brown. There are some very nice trails here going through different habitats, so -- in addition to the historical interest -- itβs one of my favorite places to prowl for birds and other wildlife.
For #smallbirdsaturday, I offer a #blueheadedvireo, showing off his signature blue head. I think this photo also qualifies for #GreenSaturday. wildadirondacks.org/adirondack-b...

This is a scenic photo of a vibrantly green meadow with blue mountains in the distance and lovely fluffy clouds in the sky. It was taken in late May at Glenview Preserve near Saranac Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. This property was purchased by the Adirondack Land Trust in 2016. The plan is to develop some accessible nature trails through the property, giving access to a nice wetland beyond the meadow.

A small blue and white bird with a black throat is posing against a background of green leaves. Itβs a Blue-headed Warbler. They winter south of us and we see them here in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York in the spring and summer when they arrive here to breed. They breed in northern hardwood or mixed forests, and they like a thick understory of shrubs, where this bird is posing for me.

A fairly large brown bird is standing in the water of a small pond on Hulls Falls Road. This little pond attracts a lot of wetland birds, and itβs a reliable place to see some adorable ducklings in the spring. Itβs near Keene in the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York
