What would be great is if polls just didn't ask about 'the economy.' break it down into things that uuuhhh, mean something. Like the follow up question is 'do you mean the way production, circulation and distribution of goods and services is structured is bad' or 'i don't like my job.'
For years, 'will the incumbent New Zealand government party increase or decrease its vote share' was predicted by 'did the All Blacks win the most recent rugby world cup'

UK govt can save over £20bn a year by ending payment of interest on commercial banks’ central bank reserves.
Subsidy implemented after the 2007-08 crash. Banks are very profitable.
Since 2023, the EU stopped paying interest on central bank reserves.
UK can find better uses of £20bn+.

Slightly diminish a band: The Metropolitan
A hidden wellbeing penalty: private renters are 3 times more likely than homeowners to have persistently low life satisfaction.
Even after accounting for income & health, private renting comes with an estimated wellbeing penalty of around £3,700 per person each year.

There's a strategy for moving the Overton window wherein you say extreme stuff so even if you don't persuade centrists you recalibrate their sense of where the reasonable compromises lie and thus get things a bit closer to your preferred point of view. My sense is the Right can do this and we can't.

What a brilliant initiative. We need, like, millions of community economists - and we do, of course, we have millions of people who understand the economy in both a felt sense and a structured rational sense if not a credentialed academic sense whose voices should be amplified in ways like this
... yes, although mechanisms to stop rent continuing to rise - through a cap - needs to go alongside that to avoid yet more, yet more money that could be building homes or services heading straight back out through rising rents.
and if it stopped, it would take 13 days to reach us, and any life on that cold dark planet would hear it stop, and feel peace for the first time
