It was not but I wish I had come up with that. I have said it created the modern lens of "justice" in wrestling, which is how many fans now view it. Being *deserving* of pushes, wins, etc.

For those who have inquired about this, there was an outer layer of fabric covering the slap bracelet that started falling off, and at that point it became very easy to get color from it. A really thin piece of metal with sharp edges. Very safe!

Johnny Rich vs Jesse Barr
Brad Armstrong vs Les Thornton
Ron Garvin vs King Kong Bundy
Mr. R (Tommy Rich) vs The Spoiler
NWA National TV Title: Jake Roberts (c) vs Jerry Brisco

Among the best matches of the decade. Fujiwara and Saito is a makeshift alliance after the tournament was destroyed but it's a dream team and just ... works. Inoki and Saito have had the 1987 feud of the year and Murdoch is awfully inspired. A magical time period in pro wrestling.

Check out today's issue for the pun on Stampede Wrestling that was so bad it made me briefly consider just stopping the newsletter.
This whole thread has a ton of cool thoughts.
π€ΌToday's Wrestling Playlists from @pwoloss.bsky.social covers Starrcade '87 and Survivor Series '87, real tale of two shows, both of which I happen to remember pretty well. On the Crockett side... look, I was excited when I rented that tape sometime in 1988 because I didn't have cable as a kid...

World Class Championship Wrestling went into hype overdrive to make Thanksgiving night successful, but the larger story remained unchanged.

I debated this a few times but have decided 1988 will just focus on the daily issues. We'll continue the Timelines and music videos but that will be it. Frees me up to do some other things I want to do, including a big 80s retrospective when we wrap up the decade in spring 2027.
By coincidence or design, today both @pwoloss.bsky.social's Wrestling Playlist and @jonathansnowden.bsky.social's Hybrid Shoot discuss the Maeda/Choshu shoot kick incident from 1987. You can read the most thorough examination of one kick you can imagine here
