Her writing style is so much like she is sharing gossip with you, the reader, her best friend and the two of you together are judging everyone in the room. At the same time her characters are afforded so much humanity
People call it her saddest book, but it is still incredibly funny! Her wit translates hundreds of years later, her characters are more in the round than a lot of contemporary prose.
