I love history, so I am excited to live through the 1840s, the Robber Baron era, the 1918 Pandemic, the Great Depression. 1930s Germany, and the 1960s at the exact same time

Left-wing censorship was a fantasy, but the right-wing censorship is real, unconstitutional, and murderous. There was no majority anti-conservative social media bias or casual forced use of words like β€œbirthing person.” But stripping protest rights and official language is actual deadly censorship

48 Scientific Societies Representing Almost 100,000 Scientists Ask Congress to Protect the Future of Science 48 scientific societies representing almost 100,000 scientists signed on to a letter asking Congress to protect the future of science

Today, a broad coalition of scientific professional societies who represent over 92,000 scientists are speaking out against the politicization and demonization of Federally funded science and government scientist jobs.

It was an honor to help the Union of Concerned Scientists with this! πŸ§ͺ🌎

Heading: Tariffs could push up costs for car industry. The graphic shows a map, with 5 steps in the manufacture of a piston.

1. Powdered aluminium sent from Tennessee
2. Turned into rods in Pennsylvania
3. Shipped to Canada, Canadian tariff paid at border, rods shaped and polished in Canada
4. Rods sent to Mexico for assembly into pistons. Direct transfers from Canada to Mexico do not incur tariffs.
5. Shipped to Michigan. US tariff paid at border. Pistons become part of engine in Michigan.

This BBC graphic is a good way to show why reciprocal 25% tariffs will cause prices on some goods to go up far more than 25%.

A piston used in a car engine made in Michigan will cross the U.S. border twice, and will be taxed 25% each time.

Some products cross the U.S. border even more than that.

1. Happening now, the United States Senate is considering S9, a bill that would ban transgender people from playing sports of their gender identity from chess to darts and everything in between.

It could result in genital exams and more.

I'm covering live.

Imagine DOGE opens your mail and finds your household electric bill. To eliminate this cost, they burn your house down without warning. Then they total up the bills that, as a homeless person, you will never again pay. On its website, DOGE boasts about the money it has saved you.

Genuinely confused, if the Ex Orders aren't legally binding and are even being stopped by judges, why are so many scientific orgs rushing to implement them? Why not refuse, or better yet, organise to do so en-masse? Is there any joint leadership emerging?

K is for Kiwa.

In hydrothermal vents and methane seeps >1000m, exotic locales like Antarctica and the Galapagos, yeti crabs (of octonauts fame) thrive. Divorced from sunlight, they farm chemosynthetic bacteria on their own claws, waving them around!
