There was no privacy—it was a shared phone, located in a hallway between cells with agents nearby. (Id. ¶ 12.) J.I.B.C. told his girlfriend he had been detained; she said she would find a lawyer. (Id. ¶ 13.) Agents told J.I.B.C. to tell her that he was going to El Paso, Texas. (Id.) That day, J.I.B.C. was transferred to Texas. (Id. ¶ 15.) During his weeklong detention, he was allowed only two calls. (Id. ¶ 22.) Officers pressured people to sign voluntary self-deportation papers; many did. (Id. ¶ 23.) Agents told J.I.B.C. that he would be detained longer if he fought his case. (Id.)

UPDATE: Staff at the ICE concentration camp in Dilley, Texas have begun raiding the dormitories of kids and their parents to confiscate and destroy letters from the children. This is in response to the ace reporting by @micarosenberg et al for ProPublica:

In an interview with MPR News, Liam's mother gave an update on her son and her own safety. She said Liam asks again and again, “Mommy, why don’t you pick us up?” Or “Mommy, we don’t want to be here anymore. This place is ugly.”
I feel very strongly that now is the time for NIMBY’s to shine. Every regulatory and procedural lever should be tested. Slow them down.
