Might depend on what you want to plant, but have you considered layering cardboard over the area to suppress the blackberries? I often bring in soil and plant on top of it for new beds in weedy areas

One of the silver linings of the last year has been watching the neighboring land regrow after the landslide. What was once a mowed lawn transformed into a wild meadow: a home to monarchs, rabbits, deer, hawks, and so many native grasses.

Coming back to this abandoned milkweed painting. Yesterday I found a monarch caterpillar forming a chrysalis on the garden milkweed. It was exactly one year after this area washed away in a landslide during Hurricane Helene
