Ahh, Godwin's Law. Haven't heard that in decades. Thank you for transporting me back to a time when political discourse on the internet was kinder, gentler, easier on the soul...

Enjoy Billy. All the best tae you and yours. Will hopefully bump intae ye again in Boston
I've no idea of the point you're trying to make.
I do find it ironic that you say you've learned your anti-democratic position from Brexit, considering Brexit is the whole basis for Scotland's indyref2. Still, you colonials know best I'm sure.
I see, so you *might* be willing to support democracy so long as the rules are set up in such a way to provide your desired outcome. How very colonial of you, Barry.
That's fair enough Barry. Is there any chance they'll become pro-democracy by dropping opposition to indyref2 though?
Police rifled through Nicola Sturgeonβs bin and garden in raids of home and SNP HQ Police Scotland said extra measures had been put in place to provide privacy as officers removed items from the house in Glasgow https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/04/05/police-crime-scene-tent-nicola-sturgeon-home-safeguarding/
Morgan McSweeney will not be investigated over Labour Together donations Sir Keir Starmerβs chief of staff had been accused of not declaring Β£700,000 given to the think tank and seeking to pass it off as an βadmin errorβ https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/morgan-mcsweeney-labour-together-electoral-commission-0lx7kxs5b
Two tier headlines.
SNP accused of using indyref donations for other SNP activities. Sturgeon & her partner arrested. House ransacked. Charges dropped.
The other, over Β£700,000 undeclared "donations" is an "admin error". No arrests.
All. Perfectly. Normal.
The BBC as the voice of the English Establishment has always been obvious in Scotland, Wales, and NI. The fact that the Establishment now feels a natural alignment with Reform UK now makes even those in England spot the obvious issue with this.
The BBC needs to be politically neutered.
Instead of training their guns on Reform, Labour will try to offer a gentler version of them by aping their language and policy.
Poor Keith Starmer... He never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity
Green Grow The Rushes, for the Rabbie Burns link....

India, Ireland, USA, Singapore, and now Scotland. They all got the colonial 'you're too poor' treatment.
What's the source for this quote?
I'm expecting the UK to need another bailout at some point in the reasonably near future too. Can't solve the stagflation problem. Future prospects extremely negative
Aye, McWilliams (like the rest of his compatriots) know that a country's economy can't thrive while it's run as a satellite to south east England with no macroeconomic powers.
GDP per capita isn't an accurate measure of living standards though. Consumption per capita is what you're looking for
It did go under in the 70s.... Had to be bailed out by the IMF in 1976
You're right he hasn't. That's because Salmond and Sturgeon presided over big international stories (indyref1 and brexit). Swinney doesn't have anything similar. He's no more known or visible to you as the leader of any other foreign country, like say, Norway.
"A very important piece in Private Eye. Please read and circulate. It shows exactly how the secret state operates in trying to manufacture consent. Of course it relies on enough people being duped as well as on some witch-hunting McCarthyite scabs who will relay the propaganda."

Ahh yes, that well known "island" of England.
The argument for not joining the Euro is about monetary sovereignty. Which is very different to the control/sovereignty argument the brexiteers made
Hmm, I doubt it. It's probably the Starmer effect
The best example of which is the BBC/England's puke-inducing deference to the monarchy
And to avoid yet another defeat in Scotland:
5. End their opposition to indyref2
Or, y'know, just buy a motorbike
Thanks for your reply. I'm interested in why the 2014 weighting is problematic. Is it because it's exaggerating the elderly No vote, as alluded to in this exchange? BTW, I don't have an opinion on the Find Out Now issue, and certainly not trying to engage in whataboutery.

Would love to hear BBS's thoughts on this
That article is from February and refers to an old poll. James Kelly covers the issue as part of this post....

The people that make these arguments show themselves to be 'British nationalists' (i.e. their politics are of a unitary single nation state) rather than 'unionists' (who accept the UK is a multinational state of formerly independent countries).
"No, it's not". It's not what, I'm not following?
Discussion of a deal with Reform is academic anyway, as they'll join with the Tories to form a majority way before countenancing the SNP
Confidence and supply deal to make him PM. If he's what you say he is then winning indyref2 will be more of a shoo-in than it already is. Can always renege in the event of losing it
Presumably any deal with Reform would be on the basis of them allowing indyref2. I still think Sturgeon should have explored that option with Theresa May when she was desperate for votes. On your 2nd point, fair enough.
