Los Angeles Sabertooth. Ink and watercolor on #LosAngeles map.
Had an amazing time at Kai Lun Qu’s “Pet Portrait” workshop over the weekend. Learned an incredible amount that I’m excited to put to use in future paintings and created a painting that I’m proud of and surprised me (which is always my favorite feeling in art).
Thanks Bonnie! Yes — Natalia is a fantastic instructor. I learned so much from her workshop that I’ve been actively applying to each painting I’ve worked on since.

Those colors! Beautiful piece. Love the composition.
I’ve used variations of this limited palette before (like cinnabar green and deep cadmium red) but never these two exact colors and they lead to interesting color mixes that I really enjoyed. They desaturate every mixture quite a bit which takes getting used to but I enjoy the result.

Thanks for letting me know. I wasn’t even aware. It is frustrating as I’ll never understand the sensibilities of these platforms and with all the craziness in the world it’s hard to fathom how an oil painting of a clothed person is problematic. I just want consistency and for it to make sense.
Had a wonderful time at Natalia Fabia’s 2-day Life Painting workshop over the weekend. Here is my first piece using a new-to-me palette of white, yellow ochre, magenta, viridian, and black.
In preparation for an upcoming “life painting” workshop I’m attending, I wanted to experiment with the instructor’s color palette which included new-to-me viridian and magenta. Really fun color combo to play with.
I love maps! They’re so much fun to play with. A sense of place is such a powerful aspect to integrate into artwork.
Ink and watercolor of pelican on Imperial County, California map. I’m endlessly fascinated by the Salton Sea and its past, present, and future and the people surrounding its extensive shore.
