This is figure 1 from โHuman biomass movement exceeds the biomass movement of all land animals combined.โ It shows total biomass movement of land animals and birds.
Human biomass movement may be up to 40 times greater than that of all land animals combined, according to research in Nature Ecology & Evolution. A second Nature Communications paper finds that wild mammal biomass has more than halved since 1850. go.nature.com/4oID33i go.nature.com/3LhSD7n ๐งช

A slide, saying: major excursion Quรฉbec: exploring the environmental and social impacts of energy transition. Underneath, there is a collage of four images: a skyline view of Totonto, a large red sign on the highway towards Maagami, some sticks assembled to the structure of a tipi, and our students standing in front of a reservoir, wearing orange vests and blue helmets.

A square social media slide in warm colours that shows the two towers of the Frauenkirche in Munich up close. The text says: Mapping Munich's HotSpots ... with Garbage Trucks! In the left bottom corner there is a circular image of the heat map that was created with the data from garbage truck sensors.
๐ก๏ธ Some parts of #Munich heat up more than others โ and this can be dangerous! Thanks to garbage trucks turned climate sensors, Munich can now implement targeted heat mitigation measures where they are needed most. Read how: www.geo.lmu.de/geographie/e... #UrbanHeat #ClimateAction #Geosky ๐งช

(2/2) Using two #LargeEnsembles from the #DAMIP archive, we estimate UK summer heat-deaths under factual (all forcings) vs. counterfactual scenarios (natural-only, GHG-only, aerosols-only). We quantify the time of emergence (ToE) of climate signals on heat-deaths by forcing type.

(1/2) About 700 annual heat deaths (1961โ1980) were avoided by aerosol cooling. Then, rising GHGs + reduced aerosols drove sharp increases. Projections show a 2โ6-fold increase in heat deaths through GHGs by 2100. However, we did not look into the positive health impacts of aerosol reductions!

Colored line-plots showing the summer temperatures (May-September) from 1850-2100 for the UK (A) and the corresponding heat-related mortality (B) for the CanESM5 large ensemble (DAMIP archive). Colors refer to the applied factual (All, green) and counterfactual (Natural forcings only, blue; anthropogenic greenhouse gases only, red; and anthropogenic aerosols only, purple) forcings. Future projections are based on the SSP-245 pathway. Solid lines represent the mean of the large ensemble, i.e., the forced response. Shading in both panels refer to the 95% empirical confidence interval representing both, the uncertainties of the health risk function and natural climate variability (assessed as spread over the 10 members of the SMILE). See https://tinyurl.com/yzpy8v55 for details.
Anthropogenic #ClimateChange ๐ ๐ drove increases in UK summer heat ๐ก๏ธ mortality. Yet, without aerosol cooling this increase would have been even more drastic! Check out our #ClimateAttribution & #Epidemiology ๐ study in @thelancetplanet.bsky.social, led by Kai Wan for more!

Anthropogenic global warming is set to exceed 1.5 ยฐC already by 2028 and hence improved quantification of the Paris goals is proposed. This is based on a new benchmark timeseries from 1850 to 2034 that tracks global surface air temperature change.

Redrawing the global warming stripes.
In a new paper led by Sebastian Sippel published in Nature today, we show that the early 20th century global ocean surface temperatures and thereby global mean surface temperature were warmer than previously thought.
