πŸŒ€ We solved the structure for T. denticola periplasmic flagella!

I'm very happy to finally showcase this work. A huge collaborative effort between myself, @bindusmitapaul.bsky.social, @debnathghosal.bsky.social, Jack Kim, @banfieldlab.bsky.social, Eric Reynolds and the Chris Fenno lab.

🦠 Enjoy!

Similar scenes in early 2025 when diversity grants were cut and some asked whether there now would be money left over for their research and if they should contact their program officer to ask for supplements... deplorable.

Not true. Switzerland has the same bicameral parliamentary form (admittedly based on the U.S.), with the National Council (=House of Representatives) and the Council of States (Senate). The Canton of ZΓΌrich (with 1.5 Mio people) has the same 2-person representation as the Canton of Uri (33K people).

University Services
Meal-A-Day Program
Dear students, faculty, and staff,
The University of Minnesota is committed to supporting our students, faculty, and staff facing food insecurity. One way we are supporting our community during the disruption of SNAP benefits is through our temporary Meal-A-Day Program.
University of Minnesota students, faculty, and staff on all campuses who are current SNAP benefit recipients will be able to access one free, in-person meal in a residential dining hall each day that SNAP benefits are limited or unavailable. Students, faculty, and staff may follow the process outlined below to verify eligibility. We expect the program to continue until SNAP benefits resume.
Accessing the Meal-A-Day Program
This program is only for students, faculty, and staff who are current SNAP benefit recipients, and who do not have existing meal plans. One-time verification of SNAP benefits will be required in order to access the Meal-A-Day Program.

The University of Minnesota just announced the "Meal-A-Day Program" which will provide one meal a day for SNAP benefit recipients while the SNAP program is limited or unavailable. This makes me very happy. A lot of students, faculty, and staff at the U need this, unfortunately.

Yesterday, I noted that the missing funding for non-competitive renewals and new awards had decreased from June to July by approximately $1.99 B.

It appears that ~$0.28 B is due to the use of multi-year funding.

This still represents 651 grants and investigators that could have been funded.

New equipment has an about 9 year 10 month lag phase, when the 10-year warranty has conveniently run out, the start-up has been consumed or administratively usurped, and the new grant proposal just missed the payline. So it's like investing - it all depends on the proper mix of assets.
