Unbothered is...not what I would call my feelings about that thought. BlasΓ© does not enter into it.

Honestly, not worth it. But we can dream of him rolling over in his grave!
Um.
Reading this is a good reminder that human intelligence is a wondrous thing, but the system we currently live in incentivizes genocidal plunder.
Whaddaya say @council.seattle.gov and @mayorofseattle.bsky.social? We're not going to let CAMBRIDGE show us up, are we?
I wanna talk to them when it's three months. Or hey, let's all have a jubilee year in which ALL PROFITS go to healing our ecologies.
One year. We could all survive one year, right? Big props to the first company willing to lead the way...
the one who loved horses, the one who was a great goalkeeper, the one who kept a diary every day, the one who held her sister's hand when they walked to school, the one who read Harry Potter in English, the one who collected old coins, the one who drew rainbows for her grandmother ...
Chat with AI? "Date" an AI? "Write" emails to friends with AI?
I mean, they haven't yet said AI will keep us from "having to" listen to our own music or snuggle our kids and animals or watch a beautiful sunrise...but that's where they're going with all of this.
WE FIGHT (EVERY) WHERE WE CAN. If he's got better fights for the folks in those communities against the ecological & political dystopia the tech barons are aiming us at, he should...feel free to organize them.
We WILL find our way to human-centered tech...without "help" from the peanut gallery.
Sometimes Wallace Wells is just obtuse; years ago, it was "I don't recycle". Now it's this.
The whole country is rising up against data centers & the fights are producing environmental victories & it's changing the electoral landscapeβyet it's a distraction? How does that work?
"Learn no unauthorized facts."
Straight outta Orwell, and surely among the most depressingly accurate 4 words about this moment.

"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just."--Thomas Jefferson
I particularly love this: "These latter two threats are inherently contradictory: one labels us a security risk; the other labels Claude as essential to national security."
This is how you do religion right.
"What we found is that any metric of agricultural intensity was always the best predictor of acceleration of the decline.β
Fun, since the local solar anti's are up in arms about turning farmland into pollinator friendly solar near the bird watching sanctuary.
Hungry? Eating won't fix anything.
Normally I hate the betting markets. But this, this is π¨βπ³π.

Someday, if I need a reason to live, I'll whisper to myself, "remember that blind refugee who was abandoned in February in Buffalo far from home, and died? the people who did that can still be tried and sent to prison."
if only I believed they actually felt it, rather than simply aggrieved and/or misunderstood.
however, institutions recognizing that certain behaviors mustn't be (seen to be) tolerated? priceless.
Nahhhh, I think '78 remains the queen. IIRCβand I probably don't!β it was 30+ inches ON TOP of 20-ish inches from only a week or two before. I lived on a pretty busy street, and folks were xc skiing and sledding down it for DAYS. I was 11, in a warm house with enough food. It was beautiful.
"The projects are sparking alarm from El Paso to Davis, West Virginia, from residents unhappy to learn that gas plants large enough to fuel major cities are set to sprout in places they were never expected."
Way to go, tech barons! Make enemies of EVERYONE with this garbage.

This is absolutely true, and absolutely heartening. However, all the solar in the world won't save us while the bad guys are still amping UP the use of fossil fuels.
Slowing the energy transition down is genocide.

Like what Musk did to USAID, and want him to do it to the night sky?
Then donβt do this comment processβwhich is, in truth, a little kludgyβ¦but unbelievably important if you value leaving anything at all in this world un-devastated.
