Were there moments that you missed? Anything that happened that’s on the cutting room floor? I don’t think there’s anything I missed that I wish I’d gotten. I’ll give you a little anecdote: Stephen Miller was perhaps the most concerned about the portrait session. He asked me, “Should I smile or not smile?” and I said, “How would you want to be portrayed?” We agreed that we would do a bit of both. And then when we were finished, he comes up to me to shake my hand and say goodbye. And he says to me, “You know, you have a lot of power in the discretion you use to be kind to people.” And I looked at him and I said, “You know, you do, too.”

The Steady State has asked Congress to investigate reports of an “Interagency Weaponization Working Group” — a group allegedly using the IC and law enforcement to target political opponents. If true, it marks a slide toward a domestic surveillance or retribution mechanism—an American KGB.

Personal inflection takes courage. And publishing essays is just the start (and the necessary spark) to show the toxic bully pulpit that the pen WILL be mightier than the sword.

Maybe I’m just old school, but I think leaders should aspire to personal & professional conduct that motivates more people to attend a July 4th parade w/free fireworks than a protest on a chilly Saturday in October to shame your effigy. 🤷‍♀️ #NoKings

Due process is required to determine who is and is not a criminal. Otherwise it’s simply murdering suspects w/o distinction of who is likely innocent. If we want to consider this “combat” these actions do not comport with the Law of Armed Conflict.
