Discarded bed head and base, propped up on the pavement by a wall
Tempted to set these out as hurdles for folks walking home from the pub, or show jumping set if they are on horseback. π

Last year when I was checking into a hotel, the desk person was wearing Meta glasses. I kindly asked them to take them off. They were annoyed. I said, βI do not consent to you looking at my credit card and ID with Meta glasses on.β My instincts were correct: www.bbc.com/news/article...
Sure, we'll retract that paper we published that someone else faked your name on.

I really like the use of @internetarchive to host recordings of conference sessions.
The @copim team have done a really nice job here with the COPIM Conference 2026 recordings: https://archive.org/details/copim-conference-2026

Thanks, itβs been quite a bit of work tbh, but something thatβs been of great interest. Think it needs more coverage as itβs quite a big story for academia
@deevybee.bsky.social made the great suggestion in my Under Review podcast that semi retired or retired academics could pick up some of the slack in return for payment as a part time income. @stephenpinfield.bsky.social once said to me that for every paper you publish, you should review 3 by default
.@resprofnews.bsky.social has featured the work I've done looking at HE's slow departure from X.
I ought to run a sweepstake to see which uni is the last to cease posting on the platform.
Imagine having that honour π€£
Does the term 'predatory journal' bother you? It does some people, but unfortunately attempts to rename something rarely stick - especially when a name makes sense. My latest for @cabells.com

Infographic with weighing scales which highlights how the majority of universities are no longer active on X, and also showing which leading ones have quit
UK universities who have ceased using X have now tipped the scales and those still active on that platform are in the minority as my new infographic shows.

I care about @cilip.bsky.social and was the chair of their MMIT special interest group and published a book with them. Also, they need to have their own proper LinkedIn group, that's moderated to stop some of the content appearing under their banner in a LinkedIn group under their name.

It really does seem fitting that the people whose job it is to organise and verify the world's knowledge should probably stop contributing to a platform thatβs currently busy dismantling it. So do the right thing and let it go.

Itβs like a group of fire safety inspectors deciding to hold their annual AGM inside a firework factory thatβs currently on fire. Given their reputation for empowering Impact & their own ethical framework, watching them cling to a platform that opposes their very ethos is.. well, itβs a choice.

Think about that for a second. The very body that champions information literacy, ethical data management, and the fight against misinformation is still maintaining a residency in a penthouse suite at the Ministry of Disinformation.

Following on from my piece for the @lseimpactblog.bsky.social on HE's slow departure from X, I want to share another important takeaway.
As someone who has been part of the library and information community for 25 years, I am reluctant to post this, but come on @cilip.bsky.social - get off X.

Thanks David π
I'm also confused as to why so many (from my collection) have joined Bluesky and Threads but added no bio information or links?
Even if they never post, they can own the handle as a holding space and point people to where they are active.
Dozens haven't!

Image of the words Under Review podcast alongside a waste paper bin with Elon Musk and X in the bin - in monochrome.
There is a lot to unpick from all of this, my podcast goes into it further, this is not just about X, but it is a warning should the same situation arise on another platform.
I looked at data I have collected for the last 18 months and produced a rapid response Under Review podcast as well.

An infographic with weighing scales showing that the majority of universities not on X outweigh those still using the platform
If you are part of a university or UK facing research organisation, publisher, funder, learned society and they are still posting on X - they're in a rather uncomfortable minority now. Perhaps point them to the eXit.

Calling AI "slop" has been one of the most effective instances of the public rebranding a product and it pisses them off.
For now, feel free to listen/watch the latest episode that explores academic fraud and what needs going into the Under Review Bin.
Please share with anyone who may find this series of interest and as always subscribe, like and share (feel a bit cringe saying that).

I've been really pleased with the reception of my Under Review podcast. Last week's episode with @elisabethbik.bsky.social has been viewed on YouTube almost 800 times as well as a good number on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Listening recommendation: An insightful interview with @elisabethbik.bsky.social, winner of the 2024 #EinsteinFoundationAward, on the growing scale and financial cost of academic misconduct, driven by the "publish or perish" culture, including the rise of paper mills and the gaming of metrics.
